Nascar Race #35 - "I Will Hit Him On Purpose If I Can Get To Homestead" 500 - Phoenix

This is the last culling of drivers to run for the Chase Championship at Homestead. Only Jeff Gordon has a seat so far with non-Chaser JJ winning last week in Texas. Since I steal from Jayski's all year long, one more time won't hurt. Jayski's Chase scenario;
#24-Jeff Gordon has already clinched a spot in the Championship 4, regardless of the finish of any other driver...
#18-Kyle Busch will clinch with a finish of 3rd or better; 4th and at least one lap led; or 5th and most laps led.
#4-Kevin Harvick will clinch with a finish of 2nd or better; 3rd and at least one lap led; or 4th and most laps led.
#78-Martin Truex Jr., #19-Carl Edwards, #2-Brad Keselowski, #41-Kurt Busch and #22-Joey Logano only control their own destiny with a victory. Logano can ONLY make it to the Championship Round with a win at Phoenix.
Those seven drivers have their backs are against the wall to make the final cut. This should be a take no prisoners race.

Phoenix has a full slate this weekend. K&N Pro Series West, Trucks, X-Men and of course, Cup. MRN's schedule;

The entry list is at 43 for the Cup race, so everybody gets to stick around. Erik Jones is going for the trifecta, driving for the Truck Championship as the points leader, Playing X-Man and filling for Kenseth in the #20. Jones did a good job in the Cup race last week, he finished 12th after starting in the 6th position and didn't get into any trouble.

How about some good weather news? Sunny and clear all weekend - That's a nice change with no threat of rain.

News and Notes
  • PIR has been renamed for this race. In honor of Jeff Gordon's pending retirement, it will be named Jeff Gordon Raceway for his last race on the track.
  • Penalties - Several drivers got warnings foe inspection troubles at Texas. Dale Jr. lost pit stall selection because of getting his 4th warning, he's back to zero. A couple others got warnings as well.
  • Non-Penalties.- Three of the Gibbs cars had splitters confiscated because the test gauge didn't fit. It seems a resin build-up was used to change the shape of the splitter causing the go/no-go test fixture to say no-go. Somehow the three avoided any penalty. Once again, Nascar confuses me! Get caught redhanded and not even a slap on the wrist!
  • TV ratings - With the return to broadcast TV, the ratings increased, even over last year on ESPN. Not great, but better than the continued decline FS1 and NBCSN demonstrated all season long.

It took an extra couple of weeks, but QC finally won his Birthday Race. Belated Birthday cards are always the best. :smile: He got his 5th :first: Congrats, QC.

In the overall chase, FlaCowboy still leads the way. With a good, strong Texas finish, his lead is now 469 points. GULP!
This the penultimate chance to chew into FlaCowboy's overall lead - It's still less than 500 points. :sour: Either 64osby or aspeck can catch the Bronco Buster in these final two races. :hopelessness: :concern::help: Maybe.

Make the good changes to your lineup and good luck.

So who has the pole at Jeff Gordon Raceway? It ain't Gordon.

I only see 6 golden names in the top 12. Missing are Logano starting 14th and Keso starting 18th.

Erik Jones, the sub for Matt Kenseth in the #20, is on the pole for tonight's Truck race. Jones, a rookie, is leading the Truck standings by 17 points over Matt Crafton. He is also running the Triple since he's in the XFINITY race tomorrow - A busy kid at the end of the season.

The Truck race flags off at 8:48 EST on Fox Sucky 1.

I hope some of you are watching the Truck race. It's been a battle between Jones and Crafton. who are 1-2 in points, have been 1-2 all night.. With about 30 to go on a restart, Crafton slid up into Jones, spun into his team mate and wiped out both trucks.. It looks like Crafton is out of the Truck Championship race now.

Up to that point, it was a really good race.

Jones didn't win, but his point lead is 19 heading to Homestead next Friday. Timothy Peters won the race.

Shrubby won the X-Men race and the highest placing X-Man came in 4th. Buescher has an 18 point advantage over Elliott. Next week in Homestead all 3 series will crowning a Champion since no driver has clinched.

I'm at the track this weekend. Truck race was awesome prior to the crash. I really wanted to see that one play out. Xmen was boring. I actually fell asleep in my seat. Can't blame that all on the race though. Beer might have played a role...

Overcast this morning, and I think that could be the story. They haven't practiced in anything but clear skies and sun except for quals which was late enough for some shadows. We'll see. Jimmy and Kurt look pretty strong.

Lucky Dog! :joyous: Do we have an in-race reporter? Where are ya sitting so I can :wave: at you?

The Truck race was a good one. Jones led most of the way, but Crafton was right behind him. Too bad they got together, it would have been good to see it finish clean.

How can you say the X-Race was boring, QC? Shubby only led 190 of the 200 laps and no real competition. :facepalm: More beer?

The Cup race has to be a good one today. The seven trying to get into the final four will be dogfighting. I hope!

Hey Chatty Cathy! Rain... Started right as we were going to walk over. Will be sitting in Allison 1C Row 41. Entry to turn 1. Super happy with these seats! Hanging in the coach now.

Lmao, I was thinking of vacuuming. It has central vac, and kinda makes the coach stink or I woulda. 2:00 PM race report: I made a pizza.
