A little update;
Cup qualifies at 7:40 PM today and iFL pole locks at 7:35.
This is the 1st race with complete and total rules package. Big spoiler, big splitter, aero ducts, less horsepower and whatever else Nascar threw in the blender. What can go wrong?
Atlanta TV ratings were the worst in 20 years, back to 1999. 3.1 rating and 5.07 million viewers on FOX, down 6% in ratings and 10% in viewership from last year (3.3, 5.61M) and down 18% and 23% respectively from 2017 (3.8, 6.60M).
Daytona was low, Atlanta was low, all of last year was low and Nascar is still looking for the next Winston, Nextel/Sprint or Monster series sponsor. How long will or what will it take before corporate sponsorship and TV deals start to dry up? The Twerp just signed a multi-year contract extension and M&M's extended with #18 for a reported $20M per year. That's a lot of candy! Sports TV ratings in general are declining, so it isn't just a Nascar thing. Maybe sports is spread too thin over TV, cable, streaming and the ability to program a DVR service?
