Saturday night we find out which 16 drivers qualify for the Chase. Coming into the race, all the drivers with a win are in and there are a few ways it can go to determine the remainder. Being lazy and written better than I can, here it is from Jayski's;

2015 Richmond Chase Clinch Scenarios:
Regardless of who wins at Richmond...
#1-Jamie McMurray clinches by starting the race.
#31-Ryan Newman clinches by finishing 31st or better; 32nd with at least one lap led; or 33rd with the most laps led.
#24-Jeff Gordon clinches by finishing 17th or better; 18th with at least one lap led; or 19th with the most laps led.
#27-Paul Menard clinches by finishing ninth or better; 10th with at least one lap led; or 11th with the most laps led.
If there is a repeat winner...
#1-Jamie McMurray, #31-Ryan Newman and #24-Jeff Gordon will clinch regardless of finish.
#27-Paul Menard clinches by finishing 38th or better; 39th with at least one lap led; or 40th with the most laps led.
#15-Clint Bowyer clinches by finishing 28th or better; 29th with at least one lap led; or 30th with the most laps led.
In summary...
Four drivers control their Chase destiny without a win: Jamie McMurray, Ryan Newman, Jeff Gordon and Paul Menard).
Three drivers can clinch without a win, but need help in the form of poor finishes from winless drivers ahead of them in points and/or a repeat winner: Bowyer, #43-Aric Almirola and #5-Kasey Kahne.
Twelve drivers need to win to clinch a Chase spot: #16-Greg Biffle, #42-Kyle Larson, #3-Austin Dillon, #47-AJ Allmendinger, #13-Casey Mears, #10-Danica Patrick, #14-Tony Stewart, #55-David Ragan, #9-Sam Hornish Jr., #6-Trevor Bayne, #17-Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and #51-Justin Allgaier.
Two other drivers need to win and get help to clinch a spot: #35-Cole Whitt and #38-David Gilliland.
All other drivers have been eliminated from Chase contention.

Along with the Cup race, we also have X-Men running. Trucks return next week at Chicago. Here's the schedule from MRN;

There 45 names on the entry list. The bubblers are Sorenson and Wise, who must qualify on speed. If qualifying is cancelled, Wise and McDowell will sit this one out.

Weather looks bad for Thursday, OK for Friday and Saturday evening has a high probability of precip.

News and Notes
  • Bowyers status for next year is very much up in the air. With the folding of MWR, it has been rumored that he would be going to Ganassi, HScott, SHR, HScott or RPM (?) - Sorta in that order. Right now he has no place to call home next year.
  • Rule Changes - If a wheel comes off a car or ballast falls off, increased penalties. 4 race suspension for the crew chief, tire carrier and tire carrier if a wheel comes off. If ballast falls off, 4 races for the crew chief, car chief and head engineer.
  • Inspection warnings from Darlington - Hamlin and Hill. X-Men had a few as well
  • Well, Kyle Busch clinched a spot in the Chase after missing almost a third of the races, 11 of them. Very impressive with 4 wins, but in my opinion he shouldn't be there.
  • Chase aero packages will be per the 2015 rules. No low or high downforce packages will be used during the 10 Chase races.
  • Injury Report - A new category. Chip Ganassi fell off his bike Saturday and broke his collarbone. Denny Hamlin tore the ACL in his right knee Tuesday night while playing basketball. He will need off-season surgery, but the medicos have cleared him to drive the 11 remaining races.
  • TV Ratings - Darlington drew the highest Labor Day ratings in 8 years. This was on broadcast TV, NBC. This weeks race, kind of an important race since it sets the final seedings for the Chase is back on cable, NBCSN. Bet ratings fall to match the dismal rating all the cable races have had this year.

64osby avoided a Carlinton Stripe and got his 4th :first: of the season. Congrats, 64.

FlaCowboy is still leading the overall points with slightly less than a 400 point lead.
Get your picks and/or changes in before Saturday night. We only have 11 races to challenge Cowboy..................If we can.

I will need a whole bunch more races like Darlington to have a chance to overcome FC.

That last Bristol race sure put a hurt on staying close. :embarassed:

We all need a do-over to catch Cowboy, 64.

Richmond qualifying today and Logano has the pole. Those following in the next 11 places are Kenseth, Keso, Shrubby, Ragan, Harvick, Edwards, Busch41, Johnson, Stewart, Larson and Dillon. Wise and Hill hit the showers.

X-Men drop the flag in just a few minutes at 7:46.

I was happy to see a real X-Man win for a change. Elliot and Buescher are only 21 points apart with Ty Dillon one point behind, only a 22 point spread for the 3 points leaders. I hate seeing Cup drivers clogging up the track for these guys.

I see that since NBC isn't carrying the Cup race, I can watch Bear Grylls wrestle a crocodile with Drew Brees and American Ninja Warriiors - Both repeats.

Fixed it.

GA you would think the powers that be at NBC would see the value in displaying an important race (final chase entry race). I realize that most of the decisions are money related, don't recall what they paid for the rights to show the races, but you would think it would merit being on the first tier network to maximize viewers and advertising revenue.:facepalm:

So you saw the race?

NBC only paid the paltry sum of $4,400,000,000 for 10 years. or $44,000,000 per year or $2.200,000 for each of the 20 races. The races have anywhere between 20 and 25% of air time for commercials. Darlington was over 30% because more cautions=more commercial minutes.

NBC and Fox make more $$$ on cable races than for those carried over the air so I guess there will be more cable races on in the future. :blue:

I'll have to live with it.

I was watching it and then had to leave to pick up my son. Paused the race. Came back home and it was not paused anymore. Thinking the new kitten hit the remote???.

Had about 30 laps left and my son flipped to another channel. Flipped back and the delay feature stops. Didn't see the last laps, Saw Chase in the Winners circle.

We pay for the Comcast triple play with one upgrade from the base package. Been debating dropping the home line and cable, but that will wait till the moms can't call home anymore and the kids leave the house. There is very little price difference in double and triple play packages from what I have seen.

Tonight I'll be back up with my daughter and will try watching on my computer as needed and able.

She is doing good. Small improvements everyday. Still going to be a long recovery. We expect another 6 to 8 weeks up at the rehab facility.

Thanks for asking.

McMurray, Newman, Gordon, Bowyer and Menard are in the Chase on points. They join race winners Johnson, Busch18, Kenseth, Logano, Harvick, Dale Jr., Busch41, Edwards, Keso, Truex Jr., and Hamlin as the 16 Chasers.
