Say kids, what time is it? Why Buffalo Bob, it's time for a plate race at the longest Nascar oval track - Talladega. You know we all love to watch choo-choo trains at plate tracks. 500 miles of nose to tail drafting waiting for the Big One. ARCA, X-Men and Cup are competing this week. Trucks don't return to action until May 8th.

Hey - No rain in the forecast for once. Sunday is calling for low 80's and partly cloudy, so this one should start on time. Everything kicks off early tomorrow morning with the ARCA practice. Fox is even carrying the Cup qualifying. :) Here's the MRN schedule;

dega.PNG

The entry list is 45 teams, including Michael Waltrip in one of his rare stints driving the #55. Double Waltripping wil be minimal this week. :semi-twins:

Driver Changes - Musical Chairs
  • David Ragan will begin driving the #55 full-time starting next week in Kansas to sub for Brian Vickers. Talladega is his last time to pilot the #18 while subbing for Kyle Busch.
  • Which leads to a new sub driver in the #18. Erik Jones will make his first Cup start at Kansas. The 18 year old filled in for Hamlin to finish the Bristol after has muscle spasms.
  • Brett Moffitt is returning to the #34 at Kansas. Chris Buescher is at the #34 controls for Talladega.

News and Notes
  • Jeff Gordon is doing the Indy 500/Coca Cola 600 double - Sorta. He is driving the Indy 500 pace car as part of his Hang Up The Spikes tour! Does this mean he will start from the back at Charlotte for missing the driver's meeting?
  • Since we're talking Indy - On 4/29 thirteen teams tested at Indy in preparation for the Brickyard 400.
  • Inspection Penalties from Richmond - 3 Cup teams got letters of reprimand and/or 15 minute practice penalties from Richmond. 7 XFINITY teams got the :nono::.
  • Nascar is looking into the cause and prevention of pit stall fires similar to the X-Men fire occurring at Richmond, Apparently a part came off the gas can nozzle allowing fuel to leak leading to the subsequent fire. 3 crew members received injuries, thankfully not real serious.
  • New Qualifying Rules - Dega will be using a revised Q-ing procedure. The group qualifying used at Daytona got so much flak from the drivers, that a modified single car method will be used. This will lead to a pair of cars on the track at the same time with half track separation so aerodynamics will not play a role.
  • Brian France, head of Nascar is open to cutting the length of some races. I wonder if this is why more tracks are planning to remove more seats? And TV rating are off their highs, as well.
  • The #18 is going to the dogs! David Ragan, an avid animal lover and dog owner, would like nothing more than to bring the dogs riding along on the Pedigree Toyota back to victory lane at Talladega, The Talladega race will coincide with the launch of a new tastier and meatier PEDIGREE Dry Dog Food recipe that delivers the variety that pet parents are looking for. The new recipe is loaded with whole grains and protein accented with vegetables, providing a nutritious and delicious difference that pet parents will see and their dogs will taste.
  • Don't forget to download the "100 Dishes To Eat In Alabama Before You Die" smart phone app. I'm not sure if this implies eating 100 of 'Bama's best food dishes will put you in the grave or just stuff to fill up your bucket list to delay the inevitable. :noidea: If you're hungry, get it here - http://alabama.travel/100-dishes-app

Last week I managed to stumble to my first back to back :first: Maybe my information overload update is clouding your judgement.

QC is atop the overall leader board over aspeck and FlaCowboy.

So watch the practices and qualifying and make you best picks. Good luck

News And Notes Addendum - Forgot a couple of things.
  • RCR finally got a date for the final Tiregate appeal - May 6th. This means the whole #31 crew is together for the last time until the suspensions are over.
  • Tommy Baldwin Racing and BK Racing are talking about a merger. Just talk for now, I guess.

I'm all for it. If drivers are going to race in the beginning and end, might as well cut out the middle man....

I guess, based on what I am hearing, we need to go to the 25 lap format of Formula One! I guess if you feel a race is too long, you do have the option to stop watching and do something else.

That's exactly what I do on nice summer days. Can't see spending 3hrs plus on a race that seems to be less than exciting. I'm a huge NASCAR fan, even tho it doesn't sound like it, but there is a lot of follow the leader anymore. Phantom cautions just to bunch the cars back up after long periods of green flag racing. Races that end with a dozen or so cars on the lead lap. Idk, our summers are very short. I need to make the most of them, unless it's raining...... If I recall, the 1 1/2 tracks are the worst and they make up most of the schedule. I like the length of truck races. And I like the action and scrapping from green to the checkered flag...... This comes from a guy that has been to 'Dega multiple times. And drives 2 days just to get there........

And no, nobody peed in my porridge this morning.......

ps. I do enjoy Don's write ups...... :)

My closest Sonic closed down, it was across from the high school. Everyone was asking why would a place like that across from the school close it's doors? When the indictments were unsealed, the charges were all drug related. The owner was selling to the high schoolers. The loaded Coney foot long dogs really were.

Just watched on YouTube. Nasty hit to the inside wall. ARCA says he broke his left ankle. Hope that's all.

And you didn't think to post it up?

Sonic's food isn't bad at all. It is a good place to showoff some cars.......

Tried Sonic once, Culver's is much better IMO.

See if I can make some better picks this week. Got hammered last week, but then I was camping out in the woods at trout camp.

GA's on a roll, or maybe has figured out how to use his awesome reporting powers to get the inside scoop.

Your Googler must be busted.

Never ate at Culvers, so my tie breaking vote is for Sonic.

Hey Buffalo Bob, who's on the pole at Talladega?

I glad you asked, Princess Summer-Fall-Winter-Spring. Jeff Gordin is on the pole for Talladega. Followed by Kahne, Blaney, Earnhardt Jr., Johnson, Stewart, Menard, Kenseth, Ragan, Bowyer, Mears and Hornish Jr. Going home - Burton and McDowell
