Kobalt 400 festivities got an early start with a testing session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway yesterday. Kevin Harvick topped the charts with a fast run of 28.399 seconds, 190.148 MPH, a bit under Kasey Kahne's record from 2012. Cup practice is 2-3:30 PM Eastern and qualifying starts at 6:40 PM.

Don't forget to set up your Fantasy Live teams by the deadline - five minutes before the scheduled start. If anyone wants to join the fantasy fun we have have a league at NASCAR Fantasy Games. The league name is iboats and the password is float. Come and join us us for the good natured trash talk and so you too can be beat by an 8th grader.

Yeah - I cut/pasted the preceding paragraph
from last week cuz that 8th grader beat us all again last week and is leading the league after two races. Sam60 is in second place and the Admiral is third. Me? - I'm next to last. :blue:

I see detention in kyle k's future. I haven't figured out what to do with the Admiral - gotta be careful with that.

Make some good picks, kids and enjoy the race - As long as the homer (Twerp) doesn't win.

The pre-Q practice is finished. Carl Edwards ran 28.128 seconds, 191.980 MPH. A little over 2 tenths and a mile and a half faster than the track record set by Kahne in 2012.

Nope - Dry as a bone. :)

Logano is on the pole with a fast lap of 193.27 MPH, 27.939 seconds. He smashed the old track record by 2.8 MPH/.41 seconds. In fact the top 23 qualifiers broke the old record. Barring too many cautions (debris especially) it may be a fast race on Sunday.

This new Q'ng format is really fun, but equally dangerous  These guys cruising around to cool their cars off while guys are passing them at 160+ MPH faster is just nuts. But they have no choice other than parking. I hope they keep it around until Fontana because I want to see it, but something bad is going to happen.

Tumbleweeds... :D

I ran over one today (passed the speedway on the way home). Looked busy out there, so I decided to check on ticket prices :faint2:

Maybe I should have said "The field is too spread out to have an exciting wreck and the weeks favorite is almost lapped and the re-start wrecks are the coolest" cautions? :D

I think it may be over about May 5th, the Monday after Dega. Honestly, it isn't what nascar or the fans envisioned. They figured 43+ cars would be battling just like a race to get the transfer spots. Guys going out for 25 minutes to run 3 and 4 laps and even less? What a joke.

They should split the entries into 4 packs and send them out for 5 minutes, maybe 7 minutes at Daytona and Dega. They would have to to run all out and no cool down coasting because they don't have the time to fool around. Qualifying is done in the same amount of time for the TV networks.

Obviously I don't like it. Maybe I'm in the minority?

It will be very interesting at Bristol next week....probably not in a good way.

Talk on the danger of the current knockout qualifying...

NASCAR does not want teams to make adjustments on pit road during the knockout sessions and since policing every open hood would be difficult, it is not permitted.

Where's the issue? Assign a NASCAR official to each team like what's done during the race.....

NASCAR - "Other than the cars running around on the bottom and you had one or two complain that it was a close call ... again, we're listening to them, but we want to take a better snapshot of it."

So, they may have to be reactive instead of proactive........ Someone who's up to speed is bound to run into a guy who's cooling down, eventually..........

2:16 central start time......

Back to green. Logano got a good re-start.

Did Fox change the position flipper? I see they're keeping the top three on the left and 4-43 are scrolling.

Looks like you're right. I don't have a widescreen so I can't read the positions anyway..... Display is too small....

The infamous "debris" caution. Can the camera find it?
