Eight drivers left in the playoffs and 4 remaining races to crown a champ beginning at Martinsville on Sunday. The track is a hair over 1/2 mile, a little shorter than Bristol and is shaped like a paperclip with 2 800 ft. straightaways and 2 virtually flat (12[SUP]o[/SUP]) turns. It's described as having 4 turns, when many drivers have said it's 2 drag strips connected with hairpin turns. I agree with the drivers.

This is a good place for a playoff race. From Fox, here are 8 of the best Martinsville moments, #1 is Kenseth drilling Logono which earned Kenseth a 2 race suspension. BTW - Kenseth and Harvick are featured in 5 of the 8.

This is also one of the few races using a two day schedule - 2 Cup practices on Saturday, with qualifying and the race on Sunday. Trucks are using the same two day schedule, only a day earlier - If weather cooperates. Rain showers are forecast for Saturday afternoon through early Sunday afternoon. From MRN, the schedule;

News and Notes
  • A slim news week, but always diggin' deep. Goodyear is still working on a contract extension to stay as the exclusive tire supplier. What's wrong with Nascar these days. The Monster deal was very late, announced only 3 months before Daytona 2017 and it may not be a very long contract at that.
  • Penalties - No post-race finding, they all had tight lugnuts.
  • Bubba Wallace has finally come to terms with Petty to drive the #43 next year,
  • TV ratings - 1.6 rating/2.77M viewers. Last year was 2.0, 2015 was 2.0 and 2014 2.5.

Tinknocker won his second iFL race of the season at Kansas. Congrats, TK. slurpee11.pngsportsman3 is still holding a nice lead over TB2448 in the overall standings.
Remember qualifying is only 3 hours before the race if you use that for setting your roster. Good luck.

Thanks, Sam.

Dale Jr. will be driving the Grey Ghost throwback car at Martinsville. Last year he was going to drive the paint scheme at Darlington last year, but Jeff Gordon filled in after Jr. went on IR for a concussion.

Junior is also deep into retirement planning. Here is his audition tape for a new job.

Sunday qualifying results for a Sunday race - Logono has the pole with Truex, Elliott, Blaney, Bowyer, Hamlin, Keso, Jones, Larson, Almirola, Busch41 and Kahne as the top 12.

The list has 5 of the playoff contenders. The missing 3 are Harvick in 13th, The Twerp in 14th and Johnson starting 24th.

3:13 is the scheduled start time, but there are spotty showers in the area. :blue:

The Dinger has been DQ'ed after the crash clock ran out of time for repairs. 5 minutes isn't much.

Hamlin caught speeding on pit road. How many times has he been caught this year?

After a long green flag run with Elliott leading, Long spins for the yellow.

Elliott had a tire rub after Keso tagged the left rear of Elliott, so this may help with a stop. Elliott out 1st from the pits.
