The second Cup playoff round ends at Kansas and the second round begins for X-Men. Early Sunday evening if the weatherman is right, the 4 lowest scoring Cup drivers will become also-rans. As it stands now, the lowest are led by The Twerp (currently 7 points behind 8th place), Kenseth, Stenhouse and McMurray. Of course one of them can win and change the bottom of the standings, just like the Talladega Demolition Derby 500 last Sunday. Truex and Keso are the only free passes to the next round with wins in the last 2 races.

41 teams will be trying to qualify on Saturday, if the weather holds. Friday and Sunday aren't real bad, but Saturday has a 1.5" rain forecast. They better keep PFD's handy. From MRN, the Kansas schedule;

News and Notes
  • Driver quotes (most said it's just Talladega racin') from Dega after destroying millions of $$$ worth of race cars - http://www.espn.com/jayski/cup/2017/story/_/id/21035804/talladega-accident-quotes
  • New rule - Next year Cup teams will use spec pit guns. Apparently Gibbs racing has been working on their guns and maybe have gotten an unfair advantage. So the next time a wheel falls off, The Twerp can blame Fiat, I mean Chrysler, since the spec pit guns will be made by Paoli, an Italian firm specializing in motorsports and commercial tire tools.
  • Dale Jr. and Amy are expecting a girl. Landon and Katie Cassill added a baby girl to their family this week. When they grow up, will Danica be their role model?
  • TV ratings and how to fix 'em - Talladega, on broadcast TV, had a 2.8 rating with 4.7M viewers, the highest fall Dega TV rating since 2012. On cable last year, the numbers are 2.2/3.6m and in 2015 on cable, 2.6/4.2M. 2014 was 3.0/4.8 on ESPN. I hope Fox, NBC and Nascar are paying attention! Take the races off cable!

A blast from the past - Trackchick Stars returned to glory with a 1st win this year after dominating last year. TCS gets our congrats and this week's slurpee11.png The overall lead still belongs to sportsman3 with TB2448 edging a little closer. Trackchick Stars has rebounded into 3rd place.

The race is at 3 Eastern, so get your changes in before the race. Good luck.

We won in Kansas early in the year. We don't need one other than for points, but winning is always more fun than losing. I won't speculate who might drop out of the Chase, because they might be reading and I will get a big T. Twister on Sunday.

Self-preservation, Leardriver ... sometimes that is a very good thing, and the T's can be delicate and not liking the twisting!:eek::faint2:

Competition caution at lap 30. Truex has led all 30, putting 11 cars a lap down. These 1.5 mile cookie-cutter track races are the pits!

Moffitt blew a tire and hit the wall for the 1st real caution. Blaney takes the point on the restart after starting in last place.

Blaney's lead didn't last long when The Twerp goes around him.

A rare occurrence - Larson blows up with just a few laps left in the 1st heat. Oil on the track and the heat may end under yellow with The Twerp in front.

Truex to the pits with a vibration. Larson is probably out of the playoffs after blowing his motor.

Moffitt hits the wall again in the closing laps of Heat #2. 3 laps left. Will it end under caution as the 1st heat did? They the restart will be with 1 lap left in the heat. The Twerp pits giving the lead to Hamlin.

Yellow again for Johnson this time. Tags the wall lightly and spins through the grass.

Harvick was leading.

And JJ spins again right after the restart. Knock two "safe" drivers out of the playoffs - Johnson and Larson.

Yellow to red flag for a 9 car pileup on the restart for. Kenseth DQ'ed for too many men working on his car during crash repair.

Johnson is back above the cut line. Somehow he threaded the needle with the wrecks in front of him.
