Water in gear lube. Again. Remove the outdrive and pressure test. Holds 7 psi for 5 days. Sweet. It's a brand new SEI and I was expecting it to hold. And it did.

Re-Install the drive, new gear lube, new crush washers and back to the lake for a test. 500 yards on the lake and .... water IN the lube. Again.

Clipped from another post:
The only source for water contamination I can see would be from the plunger connection at the back of the gimbal housing to the outside transom barbed fitting (short hose behind the gimbal housing) in my opinion.

Can someone name these parts and guesstimate possible mechanic prices? What parts can I replace and what parts should be done by mechanic? To me, it looks like a 'plunger' and a 'hose'. Perhaps both should be mechanic jobs?

It sounds like my problems are "Post Transom" and "Pre Outdrive"?!? The plunger and the hose: Sounds like both will need the outdrive AND bell housing removed? Just trying to get an idea of the scope of this project.

For the record, I now own 2 perfectly fine outdrive units and still have water in the lube.

the res bottle uses the hose to the barbed fitting in the gimbal, the dribble valve is what you see with the drive removed rarely will leak

If your drive is Alpha 1 Gen II 1994 then it looks like the connector is probably 861163, the hose is just bulk hose, 1940971.

Does the entire drive and bell housing need to be removed to replace these 2 parts?

Also, it seems like air bubbles where entering the resv bottle. Small signs of water, larger signs of air bubbles. Foamed up at the top when running faster speeds for a short period, 1-2 miles at 35 mph.

Does that help diagnose my issue?
