I am looking at a 1997 or 1998 40 hp Mercury Tracker 4-cylinder on a pontoon boat. The speedometer at the helm is dead.
Coming out of the top of the propeller drive shaft housing, alongside the gear shift rod, is a rubber tube terminated with a barbed coupling, no mating rubber tube. The end is open. It has been neatly tucked behind the lower housing so as not to drag or catch on anything. Might this be a speedometer hook-up?
Thank you.
