I water tested my 1964 Evinrude after replacing the water impeller. I noticed this small hole next to the upper gear oil screw. It looks like it suppose to be there. There was a consistent leak of oil coming from it. Wasn't sure if this is normal or am i missing a screw. IMG_1625.JPG

i do believe thats a water drain hole. was the "oil" that leaked from it milky ? most likely just unburnt fuel /oil mixed with water.

You dont say what model!

but if if its black, smells burnt or of gasoline it is almost certainly just unburnt oil from the fuel, as nwcove suggests, coming from a leg drain hole.

It it was gear oil it would have the typical rotting cabbages smell of an EP gear oil

See the item on the Engine FAQs board entitled " Oil leaking around lower unit"

Always say what engine you are talking about. Year, HP and whenever possible model number.
Evinrude made many different engines in 1964
