We went out to try some new fishing spots today and wasn't having much luck . We stopped to try another spot and my wife gets a bite. she says "its big" and she fights it awhile and finally gets it up to where we can see what it is...........its a big fallfish (shinner) with a northern pike clamped down on it. The pike was never hooked and didn't let go. The pike was 34" and the fallfish was 17". So I guess that makes a total of 51 inches of fish. :D (she was afraid of it so I had to hold it for the picture.
We didn't even think to get a picture of the fall fish at the time. We were to concerned about getting the pike back in the water.I wish we would have. EDIT: Here is a fallfish but not THE fall fish.
I can see why she was afraid of it! That's one heck of a fish story, OMC, she boated (I assume you netted) that pike without ever hooking it.

Tell her we said NICE FISH!

Yes I netted it and we let it go. I missed it the first time and you would have thought it would have let go of the fall fish and took off. I think I could have boated it without the net.

Nice looking partner One More. I don't think I would get much fishing in if I had that in my boat. I'm not talking about the fallfish either.

I'm not really sure where these fallfish (chub?) came from... I'm assuming as bait. we started catching them about 15 years ago and they were always small ones. over the years they are getting bigger and bigger. One rumer is the DEC put them in the river as walleye feed.
Fall fish

by fireman57

Your right, you wouldn't get much fishing in because..."can you hand me a worm" "net my fish, net my fish" "will you take my fish off for me" "take my picture with my big fish" :D :D
Just kidding, I couldn't ask for a better fishing partner...unless the lake has waves.

I love taking people fishing, espesially my wife, and its just as you describe. When she gets one on, I think she thinks its a race to see how fast she can get it to the boat. Ive tried to get her to ease up a bit, but it hasnt worked yet.

Nice Pike! and quite a story for the books! The muskies always seem to let go of the walleyes, before getting the net out. They must have superior genes/brains than northerns :D

Fallfish have been at our place in the Adirondaks, as long as I remember. Caught them upto 24". They travel in schools, and have rather unique nesting/spawning habits. They build quite a mound of stones!

OMC if when you can't take it anymore send your partner down here and I'll listen to it for a while. My partner always says things like, "you don't need another beer you just had one," "Are your done fishing yet because I am" and my favorite is "This is fun but two hours is enough". This is usually by ten in the morning when it was made plain that I was planning to be out there all day. Like I said "planning". Wouldn't trade her permanently for anything, but a weekend, he!! yeah.
