i went out today to put the boat in and try it out, after a lot of work i have done time to enjoy some fruits guys from work told me where to put in when i got to the place it wasnt good the ramp was steep and water didnt look deep enough, i was going down to look when a guy came over to warn me my boat was too big for this spot,:facepalm: so wheres a good spot i asked he told me where to go and i thanked him and started heading for the other spot, going along at a good pace suddenly there was a bang the truck bucked and i thought my tranny fell out on the road, looked out the mirror and saw my trailer tire bouncing down the road behind my now lopsided boat so i went back to get the tire, unhooked the trailer and went to get lugbolts couldnt find the right bolts but got temporary bolts from lowes to get it home using 2 from the other side to center the lugholes:redface:such a dumb ***** sometimes, lesson... no more tourqe specs for mee, lock tight then strong arm them bolts tight as i can

So......, the bolts backed themselves out? or broke off?

they backed themselves out, i painted the rims and forgot to check and retorque after the first couple miles:redface: lucky no one or nothing major was harmed, just the cap to the bearing buddy is gone, the fender is bent, and my u bolts that hold the spring to the axle now have less bolt sticking out past the nut, oh and my pride:facepalm: feel like an idiot

after i got it home i rode out to the launch the helpful boater spoke of, to check it out and saw that my truck would have a hard time coming up that ramp very steep, think i may take the explorer next time anyway so i can use 4 low if needed, hopefully next weekend pending repairs

And did you add straps to the back of the boat to hold it on the trailer. Thats the only reason it could of got side ways on the trailer.

I think his boat was lopsided because there was no wheel and tire on one side.

correct , hate to think what could have happened had the boat not been secured to the trailer the way it jumped when it tossed the tire it might have landed separately :facepalm: i painted my rims torqued them to 100lbs didnt retorque after driving a few miles, learned a big lesson, glad all it cost me was some lugbolts, a bearing buddy cap, and a day of boating:redface:

went to tractor supply after work today they had the lug bolts i needed and i got some bearing caps they are different than what it had but look like they will fit, see my shame:facepalm:

so i was going to clean all the old dirty grease out of my bearings and repack then install the caps, i brought some gm aircraft grease home from work would that be ok? or is there better grease to use? i read on here any grease is better thah no grease at all but is there a best grease to use ? i know Ford wheel bearings take Ford wheel bearing grease but couldn't find any load rite grease

yes i agree the worst part is i knew this:facepalm: in the excitement of going out for my first splash, it totaly slipped my mind:redface: $50 lesson learned, could have been spent on boat gas

marine grease works best in a trailer that gets submerged.

I use the tube marine grease on ever thing from advance.

thanks, i will have to get some, the stuff from work was free so i thought i would ask, was trying to save $ but if its the wrong stuff it could end up being more $ in the end:facepalm:

thanks, i happen to have an advance just a mile from home, they deliver to my work, if i have the guys in my parts dept order it i get it at cost
