Someone here on iboats said to take a look at http://www.championtrailers.com/

Ladies, Gents, and anything in between. This is one well run company! The website is like going to school for trailer building! 5 stars !

You will notice that they did not tell me what I really wanted to hear (secertly) they told me what I asked them to! And the answer came the next day via email!
---------------------------------------
Me to them:
A: Thank you for your help in advance
B: I'm not going to waste your time. If what I want to do, can be done I will buy everything from you and eat the cost of shipping for your help. In other words I won't use your help then buy in my local area.
C: If I'm all wet on this subject just be blunt and say so.
Then I included every peice of information I could
-------------------------------------------
Their answer (the very next day)

Sir, I appreciate your problem & I under stand your reasoning about just changing just the axle & springs.
However from an engineering standpoint, I can tell you that the manufacturer that designed the trailer [ EZ Loader ] probably carefully matched the axle, tire , spring & structural frame components to give a total package design that met the load carrying capacity requirements for the trailer as it was originally loaded.

That is not to say that you cannot upgrade the axle, tires, springs etc..

You can, however increasing the capacity of these components will not upgrade the capacity of the structural frame. I would be very concerned that if you have increased the load sufficently to make it the upgrade of the axle, & tires desirable, you probably have some structural considerations that need to be evaluated.

You would need to install a 2500# axle with springs & tires to match. See links below.
http://www.championtrailers.com/spdlubax.html#spindlub
http://www.championtrailers.com/tires_on_rims.html
http://www.championtrailers.com/springs.html#c_hook
You should have c-hook springs. Be aware that the tires you choose will probably have larger diameters than those in place now, & fender clearance may be a problem.

By the time you buy the upgrade components, & have them shipped in to you will probably be well on the way to the cost of a new trailer of the proper capacity.

I would suggest that you do a careful evaluation of the cost & the safety issues.

If it were mine I would probably wait until next year's local boat show & negotiate the best deal I could get on a new trailer.

Hope this helps. DB
--------------------------------------------
OK before anyone asks if I'm going to take the suggestion? Well SORTA :) If I deciede to buy new in the fall I have a friend who may be moving out here from just north of champion trailers.. and it would save him the cost of renting a trailer to haul a couple antenna towers and I'd rather give them the business.. we will see if it works out.

After following the "SUDS" post it's nice to deal with a company (at no profit to themselves) is willing to help.

Well I just had to post this..

Link

Thanks, Link. Good info. You don't run into too many businesses like that anymore.

Link, They replied the next day, Exceptional, they restorith my faith. Great. I also like the way they replied, taking the time to give you information to be able to make your own choise, and politely explaining the reason they recomend you consider a new trailer. I'll keep them in mind, when the day comes for a replacement trailer.

Link, was it you that questioned another trailer company that gave you a one line answer something like "It can't be done." I put some new Dodge seats in my 84 GMC Dually, and asked a GMC Mechanic for advise. He gave me that "It can't be done answer." I drove back up there and showed him my fully functional Dodge seats mounted in the GMC. Showed him!

Just one of GodsBeast's
