my starter started smoking today... one of the bolts from the bottom of the starter

one of the bolts from the bottom of the starter is unbolted and im wondering if thats what is making it short out... just installed new batterie cables, was running ok, now i cant figure out the year, the serial # is gone... also broke a piece of the carb. i have pics, would like to get a manual but not sure the year.

it looks newer. Mid 90's maybe? Make sure that the hole the bolt worked out of isn't stripped. If it is don't trust it. You may have to have it retapped. The starter will wobble and if the wire makes contact with another piece of metal it will spark!

Mine is three bolts. One you have to take the carb off then there is one at the top that I use for a ground and one at the bottom.

If the starter was smoking it should be removed and sent to a rebuild shop to be checked out.

anyone have any idea of how to get the starter off... i unbolted everything i could see and the starter bracket will not budge. I would buy a manual but have no idea of the year.

Look way down to the bottom of the bracket. There may be one down there.
