Has any one ever seen a boat starter break the main shaft?
My Aftermarket starter for my 97 Force ( 75 HP) broke cleanly on the saft. The starter was 52 weeks old. The bendix ( Nut, Gear , Spring and Shaft)was still on top of the starter ( sitting in a little hole) and it just snaped off. I could hear the starter spinning and making a strange noise so I took off the Hood to inspect and I was able to lift the bendix up off of the starter.
I have a new starter from E-Bay on order, but I just thought that this was highly unusual. The Aftermarket Starter was a High Torque Model and I do not know if that had anything to do with the failure or not.
