Just yesterday (3/9/12) I bought a 19 foot 1985 Islander with a 4 cylinder 140 horse mercruiser. I will keep you guys informed as how I improve this old girl.

Super awesome! Yah, lets give er a scrub and check it out eh!

I happen to think that guys who own Islanders are the smartest, coolest, best looking boaters in the whole Starmada. Just an observation:D

Re: My new to me Islander.

After some doubts and regrets about the Islander,I took the first serious step today and pulled the engine for an overhaul (or replacement).
Next I will remove the rear section and replace the transom.
That should keep me out of trouble for a week.
LOL what motivated me was my wife. She told me that she had a dream about winning a nice pickup truck and giving it to me.

Re: My new to me Islander.

My computer is directly connected to a few laboratories and because of that it has a crazy high firewall system. That together with pictures that usually take way too much bandwidth, makes it very hard for me to post pictures on most places.I'm working on finding a solution for too much security.

Re: My new to me Islander.

I'm almost done pulling the transom and by the looks of it,it is a good thing I did. "Rotten" is the right description. Anyway, putzing around is just as much fun as taking the boat out. Today I also ordered a new head gasket, exhaust gasket and rings,so the engine will be a little better, until I have the time and money to drop a new engine in there.
Does anybody know what the exact measurements are for the transom a 19 foot Islander?

I wish it were that simple, the old one is so rotten that it disintegrates while removing it.

Re: My new to me Islander.

While trying to pull the wood in the transom,I decided that the flotation foam should be checked. A good thing I did. I just finished one side and there must be about 300 pounds of "flotation "material in there. More upsetting was the awful fuel stench that appeared as I got closer to the fuel tank hose.It had leaked fuel into the foam!! Imagine being in the middle of the lake and you turn the little heater on ....
Oh an after thought,I did get the transom out.
