Picked this boat up last weekend, great little runner for the family. Just needs some cosmetic love. It's a 1991 Sunbird Corsair 198 with the 4.3 OMC and Cobra drive. Actually dont mind the OMC, especially like the drives for their ease of maintenance for the average joe. Who wouldnt like being able to change bellows in an hour or an impeller in 20 minutes :p Cuddy is pretty water stained, but nothing I'm not capable of cleaning up. I'll remove the bow rail and resilicone all the mounting brackets and reseal the cuddy window. Also going to make a canvas snap on cover for the anchor storage door. Kinda sill that its not a sealed point, rain water can easily get in.

PICS!
Getting ready to leave the marina

She will be getting a new name

Love the top, the camper window is removabe in three pieces, and the bimini zips right into the rest as part of the top. No taking it off and putting it on all the time

got a huge project done today!

Got all the interior out of the boat, soaked the carpet in resolve then hit it with a low dose of pressure washing. Came out real nice! Did all the seats and vinyl with Seabrite Black streak remover and a soft bristle brush. What a huge difference! This is my therapy. I kept my cars in super clean condition as well, but with a family now, a boat works better for us.

carpet before

carpet after

right side is clean left side is soaking

getting everything back together. Only thing I didnt remove was the batteries. Didnt want to unscrew the trays just yet as I have to come up with a plan to resecure them. The previous owner screwed them right into the floor. Im thinking fill the holes with 2 part epoxy then screw the screws back in. When the epoxy dries it should leave a nice tapped hole that wont allow water to penetrate the would

this corner was pretty much black, the white vinyl was so dirty. Looking good now

Thanks guys! Its been a labour of love so far. Once complete it will be easy upkeep.

I tackled the cuddy today. What a mess! Again, soaked the headliner in resolve as well as all the cushions and used the mild fan setting on my pressure washer. When doing the cuddy headliner I would do it in small sections, then suck up the water with my shop vac. Was a very tedious job but well worth it.

PICS!

These are pics of the cuddy before, pretty gross. Looks like the previous owner wasnt a fan of hard work as I would never let my tub get to this point.

You can see here where I started to pressure wash the top of the cushion on the left. NASTY!

And here are the after pics. not 100%, but she's come ALOT further from where she was. The cuddy actually smells good now, not like a mildewey closet lol

Wow, the cuddy looks great! I have similar material in the cabin of my Cabrio 280, and I've been wondering how to clean it to get some of the (water?) stains out of the headliner and hopefully kill some of the musty smell.

What is this "resolve" you used? Are you worried at all about heavy washing breaking down the glue in the headliner and causing it to come apart or sag?

Resolve is a spot stain remover you can buy at Walmart. It works great and smells great. Not worried about harming the glue as the amount of eater that appears to have penetrated to cause the stains would have done the damage already. Son far so good, and if it sags more then the hard work of peeling the headliner back is done for me haha. If it does fall eventually i will carpet the headliner and be done with it.

Got some more updates for those that are interested! Not many people in my circle of friends that are into boats so it's nice to share my work with like minded enthusiasts.

In the Cuddy, the original owner made a switch panel. Doesnt look the greatest, but functions very well. It had a factory radio from a 90's GM car, which I had to get out. I replaced it with a nice Pioneer unit so the kids can load up a USB stick with tunes for a long trip. I want to replace the face of the panel with a cleaner design but for the mean time I slapped a coat of paint on it and that will do for summer.

Now, once I start I tend to keep going and things get out of hand...

added a 400w audiobahn 2 channel amp bridged to a Pioneer 10" Sub

A buddy of mine does vinyl graphics, so I ordered a new name a few weeks back, got the call this week that it was ready. Our two year old daughters name is Norah :)

And last but not least, i was searching around and saw an amazing price on some LED strips. Couldnt pass up two 5 metre lengths (300 LEDs per length) for $10 each with free shipping. Looks pretty friggin awesome!!!

Thanks for looking guys!!

2 more weeks to the day and she'll be parked at my dock for summer :)

Great job in bringing her back to a new life! I will never understand why people buy a boat and then just let it rot......

Here's another reason why some people just don't deserve to have nice things, and also why there are so many boats left to rot from new because their owners can't be bothered to do regular maintenance. I was wondering why water continued to stand in the anchor locker after a rain fall, thinking there must be a drain for it. Turns out there is, only it was covered buy a few inches of DIRT which most likely was first leaves left to compost. After a scrub, spray vaccum and repeat, draining like a champ
