Well, I finally found the perfect kicker for my boat. It is a 1990 Evinrude 4hp.
I got a good deal on it, so I think, as it was an ex racing sailboat kicker used only to move in and out of the harbour. Was told it had maybe 30 hours on it when it was finally stored for 2 years.
I gave it a quick tune up, fresh gas and cleared out the cobwebs and it fired right up.
This little motor is great! Has a built on fuel tank, 3/4 gallon, that wraps around the front of the engine midsection. I thought this was great as I can swap out the fuel lines between my kicker and main power now.
The kicker is light enough at 38lbs including tank that I don't notice the weight of it hanging off the back while cruising. I had tried out a merc 9.9 but it was just too heavy and cumbersome for this setup.
Couple of items to note, it's only got fwd and neutral, there is no tell tale and the throttle is a slider on the top of the cowling instead of on the tiller arm.
Here's the little guy next to his big brother: Note the black fuel tank attached to the leg.
I am able to steer using the main motor as a rudder. The 4hp puts out a decent amount of thrust, I was wondering if 4 would be enough and it didn't let me down.
Of course nothing compared to his big bro:
Anybody else had or seen one of these motors before?
Cheers~!
