Last month I vented I couldn't figure out what to buy/ do: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/cant-figure-out-what-to-buy.764778/#post-5845126

Fortunately I think I lucked out and am quite happy since.
Found a 2012 Chaparral 246 for sale about 30 miles away. Guy had it in KY and kept it in a garage near a lake, he lived 2 hours away so boat was rarely used but stored indoors. He brought it to NJ but still didn't use it enough. 135 hours. Freshwater use only. After checking it out and the condition, I knew I had to buy it!
Not an ounce of fade/ dock rash, Bravo 3 in excellent condition, 350 MAG purrs beautiful, interior is spotless and he had a handful of maintenance receipts.
The trailer is equally nice and had new tires.
Got it for $2K less than we sold the 2014 Sundeck 220 so the difference more than covered the taxes + reg to upgrade.

So far- we are VERY happy with this choice. We had 9 total on board yesterday and still had no problem accelerating, plains out with minimal bow rise, handles waves no problem, seems to have a well thought out design and quality construction. It's got a good heavy feel to it.

Overall I'm as in-love as could be and it's not often I say that.

Looks like a great boat and 24 ft is the perfect size for 8-9 people. My good friend has a 24 ft deck boat perfect size for both our families

Last year we test drove an Azure 26' bowrider/ deck and it was horrible! Couldn't plane off, handled like a tug boat. I was afraid this Chaparral could be similar in behavior, but it was completely better in every way!

Good job ! (y) I assume the 350 MAG is standard exhaust (No CATs)?

Fuel injected, right? If/when the engine gets fussy, be ready

Unfortunately it has the CATs. Fortunately being in fresh water assuming I don't have any cat specific problems I'll probably never need to pull the manifolds.

Yes, if you have CATs, then fresh water is OK . . . if in salted water . . . then you really need the full closed cooling system option (Merc SeaCore, and whatever it is called in V-P speak).

So far, I have more issues with the smartcraft stuff than the CATs. No issues with the CAT's on my engines (full closed cooling).

I have some frustrations with the Smartcraft gauge options. My tach calibration seems to be off by about 1K RPM's. I believe it's probably a setting but I can't seem to find it.

On the Sea Ray I had to go through a zillion menus just to find the engine hours. I really despise this system.

Yes, I find the SC gauges pretty useless. Most of the info I get is from the Vessel-View display.
