Seems like everyone else is falling into good deals so I decided to do it too.8)

The following is a 1976 18.5 ft BeachCraft with a Merc 888. The thing runs like a swiss watch, everything works and there is no apparent rot. The only issue I can find, other than cosmetic, is the tilt system looses fluid slowly.

A week ago Sunday, I and 3 others took a daylong trip up the Columbia River. The hull rides the rough stuff real good. As you can see, it resembles a slightly downsized SeaRay 19.5 footer.

I had to give a whopping 400$ for it. The interior is pretty shabby but won't take a lot to spiff it up. What am I going to do with it? I guess I'll use one boat on Saturday and one on Sunday.

And now I'll get to find out what these mysterious Black Anchors are all about.

Re: My New Boat!

The previous owners failed to winterize it and they said it did not run well last year, so they went out and bought a new one. It had popped two freeze plugs and the carb was full of crap.

Keeping fingers crossed, I replace the freeze plugs, took the top off of the carb and blew out the crap, fired it up and she ran beautifully. After a daylong trip, no water in the oil.

Sweet. Those are the best deals to get. I never see deals like that here. This is a resort town, everybody thinks they can get top dollar for crap, and won't budge on their asking price. My next boat I will probably have to drive a 100+ miles to get, there are no deals in my area.

Well unfortunately these kinds of deals are seldom found by looking for them. It's kinda like that you have to be in the right place at the right time. I other words, you have to be lucky. If I didn't already have a good boat, this deal would have never found me.

Nice boat - especially for a '76 (except for that black think sticking out the back of it ;) !

Hey, since you don't really need a second boat, it would be a good addition to my bass boat (wife would like it more), so I will give you $600 if you deliver it to my place! What do you think? 8)

Re: My New Boat!

Yep...great deal...boat looks way newer thsan a '76....

And...$400.00 was probably two or three hundred more than the dealer would have given the former owner on "trade"...

so; in that sense; it was a good deal for the seller as well.

A lot of people just don't like to sell things privately...not everyone is cut out for it...and a dealer would give zero for a boat that old...so it leaves a person without a lot of choices.

In my area there are various charities that accept older boats...giving folks another choice.

Thanks for reading, Chuck
