My motor was running after pulling out of water

Quick question. I forgot to turn off the motor when the boat was being pulled out of the water. It was running for approximately 10 seconds as the boat was on trailer and already pulled out of water. I immediately turned engine off after realizing this. Could I have damaged the engine. It’s brand new it was my first day out with new boat. It’s a Volvo Penta 200 horsepower I/O

I doubt the Engine suffered any Damage, there is slight risk to the Rubber MJ couplers downstream of the Exhaust Risers, but I doubt it.
The Water Pump Impeller could be a different story, but without any new water coming in to it, it can't push the Water upstream of it, and that water likely drained back into the pump, keeping the Impeller wet, and therefore Lubricated
At least with most Volvos, the Raw Water Pump, is inside the Boat, either mounted on the Harmonic Balancer, or belt driven, just off of it. Beats pulling the Gearcase off

Thank You for the detailed response. Makes me feel better. Definitely will be cognizant next time

You should be

This story isn't finished yet. Your boat is now destroyed. Please deliver your boat to my house with it on the trailer for proper disposal, I will provide all the means for proper environmentally friendly destruction.

After you drop the boat and trailer off here your next stop will be at the dealership to purchase another boat. FYI I'm more of a mercruiser guy so choose accordingly, thanks!

Just kidding, you're fine. Be safe, have fun, go boating.

Don't feel bad; I did the same thing on my small outboard a couple weeks ago. Mine ran for a very short time (maybe 20 seconds). I'm nearing the three year change interval on the impeller, so it's going to get replaced soon anyway.

We all got to learn sometime. I'll bet you will never do that again. Reminds me of one of the first times I launched my boat. The boat went into the water off the trailer, I tied onto the side of the slipway and got back in my truck and started back up the ramp. The rope was tangled in the trailer and i started to pull the boat back up the ramp behind the trailer. I check those ropes very carefully every time now!
