My missing part

I am missing something on my 83 Mercruiser.
Underneath the lower unit, just under where the trim hoses screw in I am missing something. There are two bolts and I can see something corroded away that they held on. Now there is a hole that lets water into the bilge.
I think it may be something to do with the mercathode but I can't find any info, any suggestions would help.

sounds like your anode has gone away, just as designed. the merc kit comes with a new rubber plug, a gasket and bolts with lockwashers.
a picture would be even better.

Ayuh,..... By your discription,.. I'd Agree with Rodbolt....

Except they were Not installed on the 1983s.....

my 83 renken 3.0 had one.
a quick run of the transom seriel number on the mercury parts express page can tell you as its always possible the transom assy is different year from the hull.

Item 40 is the anode. There are also 2 more on the transom shield that go on the lower gimbal housing bolts, items 18 in the pic. below. They usually go away before the big one does.
Merc does sell a kit for all the anodes on the drive. It's P/N 888756Q02
