My Mercruiser 898 won't idle after warmed up

Our 1978 searay with mercruiser 898 will now start, after we rebuilt carberator. But, after it's warmed up, it will not idle. After it stalled we looked under carberator and fuel had filled the intake. Do we need a power valve? Also, we called a local marina and they said it's too old for them to order that part. What do you think the problem is? thanks

Go back to carb reset float level and recheck needle and seat make sure they are stopping fuel when float is raised to full position

thanks, we did that. Now we have access to a 350 engine that has a cracked block and we also have the outdrive to it. So, we have removed the carberator and have put on the 4barrel carberator and the new intake manifold for the 4 barrel carberator. I will tell you if it won't run after that. Can you think of anything that we need to do? We don't want to forget anything when changing the carberator? again.. thanks for your time. hopefully we can get this in the water soon.

We put on 4 barrel carb. and adjusted idle and it takes a little bit to warm up but runs great now. But now the prop isn't moving when we put it in gear. We did put in a cable from another mercruiser outdrive, I think we may need to remove the shift bellows from the other outdrive too. I think I need to start a new thread for the shifting problem. please advise on what our problem could be now. thanks

we replaced shift cable and shift bellows. Also alternator belt was squealling and belt black residue got sucked into carb. Now all cyclinders working and ran and shifted great. thanks
