October is not a big boating month on Long Island NY. But I had the time to take from work and Wife approved of me taking my daughter out of school for a few days to visit my Mom and Dad out on "the island". Mom stayed home with they oldest and youngest. This was a Father and Daughter trip.
We took a boat trip on the bay every day from October 12 through October 16.
The temps stayed in the mid to upper 60's and we had some of the best boating water all season. Especially considering that the big cigarette boats and the fishermen are not around.
We did see lots of lobster pot markers, and even a few fishermen out, but not the crowds you get in the summer months.
These photos are mostly from Jessup Neck, one of my favorite state park areas. Probably my favorite because its hard to get to by car, and even restricted to anchoring, no beaching allowed. There is never anyone there, even at the busiest summer time. The photo where my boat is beached is in a legal area.
The photo below is Jessup Net from Google. The photos taken of our trip are at the lower part where you can see the inlet at the bottom of the photo. Look for the upside down "Y" shape showing the dredging in the shallow water of the inlet. We come in from the right of the upside down Y and were beached just to the right of the tale of the Y.
Here we are at the inlet - - -
Across the water behind me and my 6 year old daughter is the neck. Oh, yeah, I did get fat. I'm working on that right now. :%
Amber and my Dad (he's 76!)
And one of my Mom just to show that she likes boating in cool weather on big water in little boats at 75 years young!!!!
Notice how everyone is wearing PFD's? I like to think its because they are safety oriented and not because they don't trust my boating skills. LOL!
I feel very lucky that my parents are still around for my kids to get to know. My wife and I are very grateful for this. We pray that they will remain healthy the be able to walk the beach with our kids for another 10 years so they kids get to know them and have good memories. That is one of the reasons I take so many photos and video on our trips. I know how much I appreciate the photos my folks took when we were young. Much more than most people at that time, they even did the super8 movie films. I want my kids to remember and enjoy the times they had as kids and be able to tell their kids about them when they are older.
This is an earlier trip to Cedar Point in August. Height of the season and no one in sight. Its nice to have a boat to get to those out-of-the-way places and have half a mile of beach all to your self.
Restoring this old boat was something that my wife was not too happy about because she knew nothing about boats and though it was a big expense and waste of my time. But now she loves the trips and finding these secluded places to spend an afternoon on the beach and only pay the price of the fuel to get there and home again. She is actually in the above photo. Sound asleep on the lounge seat in the boat out of sight.
Priceless.
Now just for reference, the photo below was taken of a wall in my Mom & Dad's house on Long Island. In the photos framed on the wall, I am the little blond hair kid. My brother is the taller kid and my little sister is the girl in the upper right corner photo in red. Those 4 photos were taken in 1965 just across the bay from Jessup Neck. It is the land in the back ground.
