Very nice. I like how you are able to lift/lower with the jack. I built a fixed stand with casters for my drive, but I may have to do something like that. I also noticed I think your boat is a twin to mine, but with a Volvo drive.

Mine is a 1997. May I ask, did you buy the motorcycle jack new? How much$$$$ did it set you back?

Re: my Handy Dandy outdrive stand

Well, my brother has a ATV, so maybe, I will se if he wants to go halfs with me. What year is your boat, and what engine do you have? I think I will have to get one of those jacks this year. I have my drive off right now, and have the lower unit split away for a skeg repair, and a impeller change. The top half is pretty light, but the lower unit is pretty heavy. That jack would make life alot easier!

the Harbor Freight MC jack would work for something as light as an outdrive, but NO WAY am I parking my BMW RT1150 on one. Uh uh.

I used one of HF tranny jacks, the mount plate has two sets of holes predrilled, I used the inner holes and drilled two 1" sq. steel tubes, coated with rubber paint it fits perfect for a alpha gen two drive. I like it because you can tilt side to side and front to back, and up and down, with control turn knobs etc..

Might take a look at other (cheaper) alternatives, too. Adjustability is great, and you only really need a couple inches of lift. Just looking at what the OP did, I wonder if the transmission jack I have (Harbor Freight) would work? It's a floor jack on wheels

Just a thought.

I'll have to take a pic when at home. Alos at the time I bought that jack it was 75 bucks, now it's up in price. But I use it for other things besides the boat outdrive.

Here is my HF tranny jack with 1" sq. tube bars coated with rubber and has plastic end caps, All I did was drill holes for placement for the bars, thats it. The cool thing about it, is did not have to drill holes into the base plate of the tranny jack, they are already there! Perfact fit for a alpha One gen 2 drive cav plate. I just used it this weekend, and man what a back and time saver! LOL!. Some picture, not to good due to Iphone crappy pics.

Very ingenious!!! Great use of resources and adaptability. Not sure which way I'm gonna go for my Yamaha outdrive yet. I'll have to take a look at it and figure out which configuration will work best.

Thanks guys!!!

Also what I like about the HF tranny jack is that you can tilt it side to side or front to back. Makes getting that outdrive algined just right before seating it to gimble housing, also once in place and the rams are tied up out of the way, just a matter of sliding it on.

Great Idea! I have to do that when I pull my motor come summer time. HF tools are not as bad as most think, despite popular belief. I own Mac and Snap-on tools, craftsman too. It all breaks IMO, and I have had more craftsman crap fail than anything, but I still buy it because the warranty. Just like Harbor freights warranty. Spend the $2 and you can take it back, and have it replaced.
