My first trip to Powell...INCREDIBLE!

So I finally made it to Powell with a few friends that have been going there for years. We left Albuquerque, NM last Thursday about 1230. We got to Halls Crossing with about an hour left until sunset. Just enough time to load/launch the boat and find camp. We camped for four nights and had perfect weather...we didn't even pitch a tent! The highlight was Saturday. We got up early and were at the fuel island before they opened. We took on $276 worth of fuel, drank two cups of coffee and headed back to camp to pick up the others. We made it from Bullfrog all the way down to Rainbow and back...with many stops in between. There were too many canyons trips to count. So we were hammering down back to the marina before the fuel island closed but didn't make it. With not enough fuel to get back to camp we payed a houseboat loaded with fuel, for five gallons. We raced the sunset and made it back to camp with little light to spare. That is one lake I wouldn't want to get caught at night on. But four days on the water and four night camped on the beach were incredible. I want to try to get back in September. Here are some pictures...too many to post so here is the link to the entire album.

Powell with it's majestic splendor and awe inspiring views. It will draw me back there too...some day.

Those little adventures where you're forced to think yourself out of a predicament always make for some good times to remember. Did you get a shot of the kind folks on the houseboat? Sounds like a cool trip. Not a huge expense sleeping out either. Thanks for sharing the pics bunker.

Your Pictures are great. We missed each other by a couple of weeks.
Left L A April 14. Visited my Daughter & Son In-law in Payson AZ & Launched at Wahweap on April 17. Boat camped in a different location each night. With the side trips we probably traveled about 400 or 500 miles on the water. Got up as far as Halls & Bullfrog. Home on the 23th.
This is definitely the time of year to go. The weather was perfect, a little rain & hail as we left our last camp on the way back to Wahweap. otherwise Beautiful Sunny Days, Clear Nights, with a Heaven full of stars. Daytime temps in the mid 70's low 80's
Powell is a genuine wonder & worth the time, effort & gas.
We're fortunate, we live in a beautiful country.
