Me and the Mr. went out about 4 yesterday to fish West Galveston Bay as we usually do on the weekend. With all the rain we've had recently the saline content has been a little off so we didn't really expect to catch much.

We set up a nice drift, it was a beautiful late afternoon. Mr. LF caught the first keeper speckeled trout, then another, then a nice sandy. I couldn't even catch a trash fish. I didn't care, I just enjoyed being out on the water with a rod and reel. We hit a dry spell and were just about to go back around for another drift when >>>>BAM<<<< my line went screaming, I had no idea what its was I just knew he was a fighter. It looked brown and at first I thought it might be a lemon shark. I wasn't thrilled about bringing it onboard, besides I wanted to play with him for awhile. After 15-20 minutes I brought him in and jumped up and down and screamed when I saw it was a beautiful 25" redfish. Its been so long since I caught one I forgot what it felt like.

When you spend as much money and time on the water as we do its nice to finally land that keeper red. The slot is 22" to 28". It was a huge thrill for me. :)

Congratulations! I caught a nice king salmon yesterday after a bit of a dry spell, so I know the feeling :)

Re: My First Slot Red of the Year

Nobody was as happy as me that she caught that red. It was a beautiful late afternoon. I had just caught 2 specs and a sandy and had a big spec (25"+) break water and spit the hook. LF was not really as happy about my luck as she says. She was saying all the right things but I could tell in her mind the thoughts were more like "what's that SOB doing that I'm not".
LF has this habit of culling the bait. She sorts through the shrimp until she finds the biggest one. Normally it doesn't bother me because she fishes from the starboard stern corner and I fish from the port side. The livewell is in the middle. Yesterday she was fishing from the bow. After the big trout spit the hook I was really into trying to catch another one. That's when LF decided to come stand in front of me and go bait culling. After 2 or 3 minutes of her blocking me I made a big mistake without even thinking. I said "would you mind getting your fat a** out of my way?" I wasn't mad or trying to insult her it just sort of slipped out. Now LF doesn't have a fat behind and there was no reason for me to say that. I don't know where it came from. The water temp was about 85, the air about 90 but in that boat it was way colder than on the Titanic when it hit the iceburg. Nothing can put LF in a good mood faster than her catching a nice fish so all I have to say is THANK YOU MR.REDFISH!

P.S. LF I would like to once again apologize for my poor choice of words. Do I have to sleep on the couch again tonight?

P.P.S. Not to correct you Hon but the slot is 20" to 28"

Mine are always too small, or out of season, or both....
(mutters incoherently about slot sizes & closed seasons) :p

Congrats to you LadyFish..Whats a Red Fish? No salt person here..Seeing your excitement it must be kinda like catching the gator..
Remember He who lives in glass house should not throw stones especially when one is, so close by to return the favor.. :D

Gongrats LF.....Those are awesome catches and you should be proud.

I'm with Oddjob on this one....That comment should not be directed to anyone, especially a spouse.

He probably meant no harm by it, but it still hurts!

He said it slipped out, so forgive him and make him take you to catch another nice Red.

BTW, I too cull my bait!

Congratulations Ladyfish. That is what fishing is all about. Every once in awhile when you least expect it the trophy shows up. I had that happen last time I went out and got it to the boat and blew it. Bet I never leave the landing net home again. My wife said she could hear my screams 45 miles away. Good job staying with it and getting it on the boat.
