My first post. Hey everyone, my name is Jay. I've been reading the board here and there, but never had to post anything... well because, I've never owned a boat before! lol. But that may be changing tomorrow :D

After many years of going crazy of not having a boat of my own I'm finally going to be getting my own! 95% certain. Going to check it out tomorrow not to far from where I live and decide on it.

I don't know much about it just yet. Other than it's a 16' fiberglass (made by Kawartha in Peterborough, Ontario), with a homemade trailer. No motor, and comes with two oars. Both boat and trailer are in great shape according to the seller. It's going for $450 OBO.

Man I'm excited, but it's going to kill me over the winter not being able to use it! lol :(

With buying a used fiberglass boat, what should I be looking for that would keep you from buying it. I'm confident in buying it so far. Going Monday to pick up a trailer plate from the MTO.

Re: My first boat!... more than likely.

Hi JEG,

That looks like a very "friendly" boat...

It's beam isn't too wide...so it should be a boat that's pleasant to row.

I wish I had a lake close by to me where I could just tie up a boat like that and have it available whenever the mood struck me...

Rowing is still one of the **VERY** few forms of excercise that I can say I enjoy. Even more so when you get far enough from shore to get some respite from the bugs... :)

Enjoy your boat. It might be your first....all of us here have had their first

Thanks for reading...Chuck

Jay, This boat looks good for the $$$$. Just make sure that it doesnt leak. Looks like a good boat for a electric trolling motor, or a small outboard. I had a 14ft aluminum for 3 years, and loved it. it was my first boat, and just this weekend i bought my second boat. I now have a 17 ft with a 50hp. Your boat has lots of potential. Send me your email, and I will send you pics of what I did to my 14ft with some carpet and plywood. Have Fun !!! Dave

Welcome, looks like a great boat for fishing. I'd start saving up for a used 25HP tiller steering outboard for it, good luck and have fun.

Great boat to start with (provided it's sound). Put a little outboard on there and you'll be stylin', looks good for the money.

Read up on the regulations and rules, take some safety training, ask questions, HAVE FUN!

My very first rig was very similar to the one your looking at. You really can't go wrong for that price provided the hull is sound. I had a little 4HP outboard on mine and fished all over the place with it. A little TLC, and you will have a real nice rig for many years. Good Luck.
Stalker ;)

Yes I did get the boat... sorry to keep ya's in the dark! I've been busy running around and buying everthing I need to get it on the water for a end of August fishing/camping trip to Bass Lake.

A couple hours before I arrived to look at it, some other local fella put a deposit down. But the seller mentioned he has someone comming from a good distance and would give me first dibs.

Checked it out for any visible damage, nothing big, other than some light scratches, and a couple of small dings in the fiberglass. Over all it looks to be a great first boat for the $$$.

Is the transom the back piece at the stern where you would mount the motor?

Thanks for the replies!

JEG
