I have recently been gifted from an elderly lady a boat she had in her yard. It is a 20 ft v-hull fiberglass boat. I do not know the make or model or the year. she said she has some paperwork but has been unable to find it. The boat is an I/O but has no engine and has a volvo-penta outdrive.

i have a ford 351 cleveland that i am rebuilding out of a 1973 ford f-250. and i have a number of questions. other than the primary and secondary ignition systems, the carbureter, and the water pump what else does it take to marinize an auto engine?

second is this a good choice of engine to be marinized?

and third, can anyone reccomend a technical manual that can explain how to install an engine into a boat and connect a drive shaft to an outdrive.

thanks for all your help.:)

Nope,........ The Cleveland motor has Never been used in a boat application.....
So,...... There are No Marine Parts for it........
The 351s that Have been used in some boat over the years is of the Windsor design.............

You'd probably be Best off to find out what the boats Original motor was,+ use that as a basis to rebuild a new 1.......

I would also say find out the original engine. Likely a small block chevy. Would likely be alot cheaper to find a used marine one with all the parts than try to marinize a ford. If you give the outdrive model and serial number that may help pin down the year.

If you can post the HIN(hull identification number) from the boat, it would help to identify what year and make the boat is. That may help narrow down what drive options were available.

A picture of the engine compartment and outdrive would also help. See what kind of setup was in it before.
