1992 Force 120hp L-drive:
My problem is that my engine starter starts turning as soon as I connect the wires to the battery. Even when I disconnected the ignition switch.
I had a problem with my starter before this. The power cable connection post on the starter was loose in the housing, although the cable connection was tight on the threaded stud. The engine would start, but sometimes I would get nothing. Just a low hum. This kept happening more and more. I finally realized that the power cable stud in the starter was shorting out on the metal housing. The stud had lost it's insulation. I removed the starter and replaced the insulator that was broken away around the stud. The starter turns great now, but with the exception stated above.
What happened when the stud shorted? And, how can I fix it ?????
Tony
