I have no clue what year but would guess late 70's early 80's SN: 1402778.<br /><br />I have no spark! I took off the round thing with the maginets and looked at the ?stators? and all looks well (clean and dry). Someone told me to replace the CDI. (the thing the plug wires come off) if this fails what next? <br />I did check for spark with the kill switch unplugged.<br /><br />Also, does anyone know what the female plug on the starboard side of the motor is for? I'm assuming 12V DC out put?

Re: My B100L

Have no clue what a B100L model is - Honda shows no model like that on their website. But, yes, that plug on the stbd side is very likely the 12VDC output.<br /><br />Ain't sure what you mean by "...with the kill switch unplugged." but the CDI won't fire if the lanyard is removed (equivalent of the 'stop' button being pushed) so be sure that you aren't causing the problem by having "...the kill switch unplugged." Taken literally, seems that unplugging the switch would leave an open circuit which would disable the CDI. Why not look for spark with the kill switch installed and the lanyard key attached?<br /><br />If still no spark, check for poor connections at the ignition coil and CDI before replacing the CDI. Make especially sure all the ground connections are good. Good luck.

First off, this motor does not have a lanyard type switch, when you hit the kill switch it grounds out the motor so you would get no spark, the contacts on the switch are normaly open. The Coil is well grounded.

You will firat need to isolate the neutral safety switch.Located on the shift linkage by the handle, under that ball of wireing and bullet connetors is a magnetic switch that is controlled by a couple of sheilds on that handles shaft.Disconnect the ground to that switch and see what happens.

Re: My B100L

I also have a B100L with exactly the same problem. No spark. It has sat for a few years, but ran great before that and, in fact, had been recently serviced and the coil was replaced at that time. I do have a few questions. Murrayw91 mentioned that the kill switch is normally open. Are you certain of this? If this is so that could be good news as it seems that the switch has continuity through it pushed in or not which would explain the problem. <br /><br />Also, I don't understand the comment about the neutral switch. This motor is not an electric start and I'm having a hard time understanding why there would be a neutral switch and what exactly it's function is.<br /><br />Also, I removed the flywheel gland nut (to get at the stator) before it occurred to me that my wheel puller vanished years ago and I wasn't going to be able to get the flywheel off. So, to make a short story long, I need the torque specification for the flywheel gland nut.

Re: My B100L

OK, here's a follow up for anyone who may care. There was nothing wrong with the kill switch - I was testing the wrong contacts (duh!) and it is normally open. There is, of course, a neutral safety switch and it was operating correctly. The coil was not recieving any voltage at all. After checking the connector from the voltage regulator to the CDI, everything started working just fine. Apparently that connector was too corroded and fiddling with it cleaned it enough to function properly.

Re: My B100L

Oh and one more thing I found. A B100 is exactly the same as a BF100. Aparently, all Honda outboards are BF's? The numberplate says B100, but the model is a BF100. I assume that the "L" is for longshaft. Found this somewhere on the Honda webpage.
