Re: My 68 Duratech
It looks to be like the PO might have left line coiled around the cleat up front. I guess it could be from heat but that's where the cleat came from the factory, and it looks like a factory cleat.
Heat guns makes quick work of those stickers, a hair dryer works as well, just a bit slower.
The logo/foot pads. They may look dryrotted but if they're like mine then they're still really servicable. I'm not sure what they looked like new but there may have even had a bit of a "textured" look from the factory. I dont' find mine to be crumbly at all.
The front marker lamp, that's one of the first things replaced on my my boat. My dad used to go out in the salt water a handful of times a year, he said that the marker didn't make it but a few years.
Just a suggestion, where the duradeck is pealing, I would go find a peice of 1/4" mahogany ply (or similar wood), scribe it in to the wind screen and just cover the whole top dash area. I think that would look pretty slick. Just finish it with spare varnish and fasten it down with stainless fastners. On that note, the wood dash on these boats finish up really nice. Just a little sanding and then like I said spare varnish. I'm not sure what the wood is, they don't tell you in the brocher, they just make it sound exoctic.
On the paint, try polishing compound, or rubbing compound on the tough stuff spots and then follow it up with a coat of wax. Rubbing compound works really well to get the dark spots off where it hits dock bumpers, just dont go to crazy. The real color of the hull is white with a very light teal/blue tint, they're pretty sharp when they're all cleaned up.
Looks like you are doing a good job!
