My johnson has water in the oil and I need some info on how to fix this problem. How many seals does it have. Should I buy a kit? It orginally didn't have any oil in the foot so I filled it. I ran my boat a few times and I noticed that oil was on the ground. It looked like it came from the prop. Please help, Thanks Wes

Oil leaking from around the prop when it is just standing indicates that the prop shaft seals need replacing. The drive shaft seals could be leaking as could the O rings on the shift rod.

You could get the gearcase assembly pressure and vacuum tested to determine exactly what s leaking or you could get a seals kit and replace them all.

Go to the Electronic parts catalog on the BRP site at http://shop.evinrude.com/ find your engine by make, year, hp and model number to see a complete breakdown of the gear case.

The lack of oil and ingress of water clearly indicate that you have problem with the gearcase sealing but also read http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=207285

Is there a certain way to take the foot off. Is their a bolt at the top of the shaft that allows the foot to come off or will it come off after I take the prop and insides out of it.

there is a shift rod screw beneath/between the bottom 2 carbs near the bottom. then there are 6 bolts holding the gear case on..two are under the trim tab which has to be removed..if you search the forums there is a way to replace the prop shaft seal without removing the gearcase and taking it apart. there is some type of seal puller that is supposed to work..I have never used it so I dont know.

I just remembered in the newer motors the shift rod is held by a small aluminum block that has a 3/8 bolt holding it tight..loosen the 3/8 bolt and slide the block over and it will release shift rod

A 3/8" bolt or a 3/8" socket????????? OMC built a kit for removing the prop seals without taking the g/c apart but if you're not a shop it's not worth the cost.

You're going to be way ahead with an OEM shop manual.
