Hi,
Have a my2000, Ficht 150hp, that runs well. But at every startup I need to hold the key in crank position for about 15 sec before the engine starts to crank.

Just turning the key starts the fuel pumps and lamp check sequence.

But to crank the engine I every time need to hold the key in crank position for 15sec then then engine starts to crank.

Does anyone have an idea about what might be wrong?

There were a lot of changes back then....see if you have a 20 amp fuse inside cowling??? near start solenoid. I will think about this and get back with any other ideas

Just to be clear, 15 seconds to crank or 15 seconds to fire?

When turning key, the lamp check goes on at the rev counter and then nothing happens for about 15 seconds, then the crank starts. Most of the times the engine fires up in 1 sec.

But occasionally there is a misfire and it just goes on and then immediately off again causing the procedure to be repeated with an additional 15 sec timeout.

I've looked for such a fuse but can not seam to find one.
Just to clarify, when the 15 sec have elapsed the crank starts and the engine starts. It's just annoying to wait 15 sec every time. And as an addition it does not seam all ok. I fear the it might die totally out at sea. But so far in have run this way for atleast 100 hours an a broad number of starts.

there is a start delay circuit that is in play here. the emm will not allow the engine to crank until it gets a valid barometric pressure reading from the barometric sensor. so your problem could lie in the emm. you need codes from the emm, and you need a factory service manual. the barometric sensor is internal to the emm, and is not serviceable.

Dasel, thanks for jogging my memory. I know you're on to something with the barometric pressure and the emm. Especially the emm.

Don't overlook the starter delay relay along with the main starter solenoid. You can use a voltmeter to see if each is receiving voltage when the key is turned to START.

Poor cables or connections can give the same symptoms - do a voltage drop test at the battery and starter circuit to find out.

Thank you guys. I installed a Optima starter battery and now it works fine. And yes, there is a 20 Amp fuse right next to the solenoid.
