Hi Group
new to forums and could use advice
I have bad multifunction gauges on my boat- two 1998 150 saltwater series. I like things simple and am going back to standard gauges. I'm going to install Teleflex Lido Pro gauges in place of the multifunction units. I know the trim is connected to the tach and if over 30 deg the auto pump does not work. When I unplug the tachs and the connector is open in free air will that tell the oil system to not work? I'll make sure the connector is properly supported under the dash and can't ground out. I have a factory engine service manual and the wiring diagram rigging instructions but no diagram of the oil system.

wont matter on the trim but what are you going to use for visual indicates for oil level in the remote tank, oil level low in the engine tank or overheat ?
but I would like to know where you got the info on the trim sender dissallowing transfer on the 98 model.

Thks for response
I opted to not have visual indicators. I'll rely on audible alarm then check out motors to see what caused the alarm. May not be the smartest move but I've never liked the digital readout gauges and their reliability/replacement cost. Motors have been super reliable and never had a problem and have low hours. Could of used Yamaha gauges but decided to go with Teleflex. Local dealer mechanic gave me info on 98 model preventing oil pump operation if trimmed up too far-- sounds like it isn't correct??. Does anyone have elec schematic of oil transfer system?

Re: mutifunction to std gauges

change mechanics, look at the yamaha pro series of analog tachs, they have all the correct lamps ,no trim indicate and analog meter movement, Id be suprised if the teleflex stuff outlasted the yamaha stuff but thats just based on 30 some odd years of observation.
90-95 V6 2.6L motors used the trim sender to inhibit oil transfer after about 30*, 96 and up all V6 used an engine run signal for automatic oil transfer not the trim switch.
find a real tech.
so when the alarm goes off for loose battery, low engine oil or overheat your gonna run back and hunt?
to easy to simply use the correct stuff.
and if the remote tank goes low it illuminates the yellow lamp and automatic oil transfer is prohibited.
unless you fill the oil tanks each trip how will you know the level is ok for oil transfer, or if the switch fails how will you know what is going on. remote tank is normally closed, break the signal wire or the switch fails the yellow lamp illuminates and automatic transfer is prohibited.
