that's the part I didn't get. How could it slide into the water? The trailer wasn't that big so I imagine a small sailboat, not enough to drag a car in.
But the tow truck got stuck, too. So maybe he backed in too far then spun his wheels and sank to the frame, and then the tide came in.

The last pic shows how drastic the tides were that day. Look at the rock piles.

Probably spun the wheels, couldn't get out and just enough of the tide came in and got him good. The first tow truck probably just got hung up in the mud and nothing more.
