What are some good lures to use when trolling for musky? The max depth of the water I'll be trolling is probably 10ft.

Ernie, Lil Ernie, though they will probably go too deep.

Large bucktails and large Huskyjerk Rapalas, or even a large floating rapala with a 1/2 oz sinker 4' up the line.

Time to go shopping at Gander Mtn and Fleet Farm :)

Thanks Roscoe. I am thinking about buying the Joe Bucher baby depth raider w/ a jointed tail. I've got a bucktail, so I'll try that too. I don't have much experience w/ trolling, so the advice is helpful I'm fishing Lake Wingra this afternoon. If you're familiar with that lake, the musky population is outstanding (although size of fish not be overly impressive).

Basscat...I know that chain of lakes well. Its hard to know with Muskys what will or won't work, especially right now with the high temps in Madison. I would suspect the Muskys will be heading deep to stay cool. You might want to switch from Wingra over to Mendota where the depths can get as deep as 80ft. Just watch out for the milfoil/blue/green algae.

Best of luck!!

If your fishing the deeper water and catch one they will be above the Thermocline..Take to shallower water to release above TC..

A released musky will always go to the bottom to rest and at that depth she is a goner once she gets below the O2 level..

My favorites are the Red/White Swim Whiz or perch colored 7" Rapala. They seem to work best for me.

Here ya go. These are perfect for trolling for the esox. One warning, put a really good ball bearing swivel ahead of your wire leader if you're going to troll one of these. Skip that and you'll have the twistiest line on the block:

I made a list of those lures. Eventually, I will add some of them to my Musky arsenal, since I don't have much for trolling. It was very slow yesterday... water temps of86º!!! But, the trusty bucktail came through while trolling and I managed to boat a small 29 incher... :)

congrats!
We're leaving for the Willow Flowage in a couple hours, we want to be on the water by 5am. I rarely fish early mornings because of my work schedule. I'll be happy with a couple walleye or an eating size northern.

Re: Musky lures for trolling

You guys know of any decent muskie lakes near Duluth/Superior? By near I'm thinking within 1 hour. Thanks.
