If a guy were to make an attempt at musky, what would be a good bet for a location for a one-time trip....I've caught tons of northern in Canada, but I've never fished where the Musky roam, and I'd like to take my own boat.
Thanks, guys..... :)

Lake of the Woods or Eagle Lake - Vermillion Ontario.

Consider hiring a guide for a day or two. Well worth it for musky in unfamiliar waters.

Whatever you do, don't go to Upsala Ontario, no muskies in the area. It just figures, thats where dad bought his trailer.

One of the Disputed World Record Muskies came from Right Here......

1000 Islands... St. Lawrence River... Clayton, Ny.....

I Agree, Hire a Guide for Atleast one day.... Just to see Where,+ How.....
Then go back in your Own Boat....

Not being a guru here I would suggest a guide for a day..A guide will put you on them and for the 300 bucks you spend will show you different techniques such as trolling and casting..

As with most game fish you must learn their habits and what triggers them..Many give up the hunt because of many hours spent just trying to get a follow. It is an expensive fin..

Lures go from anywhere from ten to thirty bucks or even more..Just ask BubbaKat..He and I are metting in Tenn. in March..I bet he has spent about a couple hundred dollars and he hasn't thrown the first lure..

As for areas, Lake of the Woods is great but if you want to stay in the States Leech Lake in Northern Minn. or Cass Lake have some of the best Musky fishn any where..I am a little bias here since the Homestead sits between these gator lakes.. learn the habits of this massive predator and what makes em tick and you won't need a guide..I still do a guide just to fine tune and learn as much as I can..

I figure I had over a hundred hours invested in catching six warriors last year..But to catch just one will make you addict..Fishing wil never be the same..

don't do it stay away from musky fishing unless your will to compleatly give your life to it as soon as that first one follows your lure it's over for the rest of your life it's all you will think about

Re: Musky Gurus....advice please

The only problem with picture is that its not me :( ..I have probably over 500$ invested in gator lures not counting my pole rigs..As MuskyOne has said its a terrible addiction. Makes fishn widows out of the most faithful husbands and credit cards are takn away at times..Just ask BubbaKat..

Did you get my email Muskyone? Neaumans and myself have got a seat reserved for you in June..

Lake St. Clair in Michigan is a fantastic Muskie fishery. I'm not a muskie man myself but I live in the area and can vouch for the location. If you get tired of muskie, you can kill yourself catching smallmouths. Drop me an e-mail if you need more info. dpearse243847MI@comcast.net.
Irish Eyes

Lake Raystown in Central PA ain't to shabby for the long toothed gator. I was going to say you need to know what your are doing, but a couple years ago a 12 year old pulled out a 52 incher bottom fishing with a nightcrawler! Horrors! No wire leader either! Sometimes the gators just don't get it!

If you're interested in the Metro Detroit area of Lake St Clair charters here is a list of some services.

Lake St Clair Charters

I don't normally fish the lake to much, but I understand last season saw some of the largest numbers and sizes in years. If you do plan to fish this lake, a charter is probably the best way to go as it can be somewhat difficult.
