Recently I was on a sight (don’t remember which one) and saw a short movie clip of a guy reeling in what appeared to be a bass, as he gets this fish to the surface, this big old musky or northern comes up and clamps it’s jaws around this bass. I was wondering if anyone else saw this, and could give me the address.

Re: Musky Bait?

Good luck there finding that site again..Must be hundreds of sites to choose from..Since I have never ever have skinned a Musky(God Forbid) I cannot say..But have skinned a few 15lb Northerns and found some good size waleyes and bass in them..Its a rare pic for you to see..if you find again lets us know..We would like to see..

Many years ago a friend was fishing and saw what he thought was a log floating in reeds..Upon closer look he found a 45" musky floating with a six lb northern through her gills..he had it mounted that same way..I have seen(nopics) baby Ducks pulled under by big gators so a bass would be just a snack I would guess..

Its not really that uncommon to have a big
Northern grab your walleye or pike while on the
line. Its only happened to me once, but I have
seen it a few other times over the years from
my own boat while fishing with partners.

In Fisherman has a video by Larry Dahlberg called Flyfishing for Northern Pike. It has a short clip of some guys netting a walleye and a Pike taking the Walleye right at the net.

A few years ago we were duck hunting on the Susquehanna River and my hunting buddy dropped a wood duck in the water which was soon engulfed by something (presumably a musky.)

Kevin

I have twice been in a boat and a big northern grabed a perch ( the second time it was a jumbo perch ) that was on the hook. And we all know muskies are even meaner. I imagine anything that can fit in their mouths and is struggling is fair game.

dunno about you lads in the staes but over here we use trout , perch, roach , smelts , mackrel , herring , bream , rud , even small pike as bait for big ones , use it on a float rig or ledger it , make sure you got something to detect the bites though

Re: Musky Bait?

Fishing up north, we were having a good day - had 6 walleye on the stringer (smallest one was 21 inches). It was a warm day and I had my feet dangling in the water close to the stringer. Removed my feet from the water and 2 seconds later the boat started moving - dang Northern was attacking our walleye! Big sucker, he was! Glad he was 2 seconds later and went after the walleye and not my toes!

I have a friend that had a stringer of 'eyes of the side of the 'toon at night and a 46 inch Musky grabbed ahold. He netted the Musky and snapped some pics and let the beast go.
D
