Multiple Remote Engine Set Up-40 to a 9.9?

Hello! I have a bass boat set up with a 40 Evinrude remote and power trim. Can I run a 9.9 using the same controls or will I have to go with a guide set up? The 40 is a 1993 model. What do I need to look for in a 9.9? Thanks in advance!

you can use a link arm for steering, but the rest is separate controls.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm able to switch out engines with a hoist for different lake/engine restrictions. If I wanted to have the 9.9 mounted by itself, can I use the same controls for steering and throttle? Is there a certain era/series of engine that I would need to find used? Thanks!
