So I just purchased a v-drive wakeboard boat and i'm in the process of doing a complete overhaul with the boat. The previous owner ran the boat hot and melted the fiberglass muffler inlets where the exhaust manifold hoses attach. Anyways I need to replace the muffler with a similar style or another type of muffler. The current style muffler I have is similar to the one in the picture here: Muffler Malibu V-drive Boats - 00 BOAT - - Bakes Online - Detail. So i'm looking to either replace it with a muffler similar to what I currently have or some type of inline muffler, kinda like this: http://www.**************/product/97432F/silencer-ultimate-bullet-289.html#list-of-products

What I want out of my muffler:
- to spend less than $300 total
- one that does not restrict performance too much
- fairly quiet, yet can still hear a nice rumble from the engine (stock sounding)
- I'd prefer to do the inline mufflers as this would not require me to have that large stock muffler in the engine bay

What are the downsides to the inline style mufflers? What is the advantage of my stock style muffler over these?

I would just appreciate some opinions on this subject. Thanks!

Ayuh,.... The In-line mufflers I've seen don't do much Quietin', at all,....
Especially at yer budget limit,....

The stock muffler looks to be a much Better system,....

Thanks guys! That's what I was afraid of with the small inline mufflers. I'll stick with an OEM style replacement. Thanks again.

Howdy,

Understand that the previous owner didn't "run the boat hot" as much as he ran it with a failed or destroyed raw water impeller. Make sure that you flush and fully inspect the raw water circuit including the raw-water pickup and include any heat exchangers .....power steering, oil, V-drive etc , where impeller fragments could have lodged or it could happen all over again with your new exhaust system!!

Cheers,

Rick
