I have been trying to download PowerPoint Viewer. I download it to 'download' folder then run it. I never see any evidence of it except for a 3 kb link in 'documents and settings/~~/programs.

When I open a .pps slideshow it tells me there is no program associated with this file. I do a search for PowerPointViewer.exe and nothing comes up.

Also, when I run it, it never gives me any options for where I want to put it. This is wierd. What might be going on. What am I missing? I've downloaded it before on another computer and never had any problems.

Perhaps you haven't really "installed" it anywhere yet but have merely unzipped the installation files to some location.

Well when I hit the run button it goes thru an installation proceedure and never says anything about unzipping. I did check add/removes programs and it showed MS OFFICE POWERPOINT VIEWER at 118 mb's, which is over 4 times its supposed size. But even with that, I can never find the .exe for it???

PowerPointViewer.exe is the installer file. Search for PPTview.exe which is the installed application. It should be somewhere in C:\program files.

PowerPointViewer.exe is the installer file. Search for PPTview.exe which is the installed application. It should be somewhere in C:\program files.

Ok, I reinstalled it. It shows up in Explore under Programs. When I click on it it just opens a box that asks you what files you want. If you click on a .pps file I still get the box that says "this file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel."

When I first click on the .pps file, it does identify it as a power point slide show. It then gives a button to open it. That is when I get the above message. It should just open into the slide show.

I have tried it on several different .pps files and I have downloaded and run this program a number of times. Always the same results.

I have another computer that has PPV installed and they work fine.

If you right click the PPS file you should have the option to select Open With. If PowerPoint Viewer isn't listed, select Browse and navigate to the PPTview.exe in the programs folder. " Make sure the always use selected program" box is checked.

The only other thing I can think of that might cause the file no to open is if the PPS file is from a version of PowerPoint 95 or older. The viewer only works with files created with PowerPoint 97 and newer.

If I right click on the .pps file attachment, the only options are OPEN, PRINT, SAVE AS and SAVE ALL. There is no OPEN WITH or BROWSE options. I'm sure these are current .pps files and it is PPV 2007 that I have downloaded.

I'm going try to get these emails over to my other computer but I have to install a new router first. I am not sure what version of PPV is on the other computer but I have never had any issues with it. I click on the .pps file and the slide show opens. Budda Bing. If these two different files that I have trying to open are no good then it should show up there.

There's another way to check the file association. With win 7, open Control Panel, select Default Programs and click Associate a file type. Find .PPS and select it. Even if it shows PowerPoint Viewer as the recommended program go ahead and re-associate to the PPTview.exe file by clicking Change program, then Browse out to the PPTview.exe file. I've seen several instances where even though it shows the correct program for opening the file something is messed up in registry that prevents it from opening. Re-associating the file can fix the registry problem.

If your using XP go to Control panel, select Folder options then the File types tab. The rest is pretty much like Win 7. Select PPS, Change and Browse.

Another thing to try is to save the PPS attachment to your hard drive and try opening it instead of trying to open it within the E-mail. In most cases attachments will open if the correct application is installed, but I don't know if PowerPoint Viewer works that way.
