mrec 7.5 help

i picked up a 1970ish merc 7.5hp serial 29578701, i cant get it fire up. i have to spark at the plug. i did some test with the coils i get it to spark without the points wires hooked up, taping it to ground with a jumper wire, stator is new, point gaps are set to .018 cleaned them out. not sure of the wiring of what goes where on the coils, help apprecitaed

Just because you have spark doesnt mean it's a strong enough spark to fire. Was it a blue arc and how far was the gap it jumped?

It was a bluish yellow spark. It sparked at contact no jumping the gap
