MPI VS CARBI

I am in the process of purchasing a 19ft boat with an I/O and the only thing stopping me is the decision between MPI or Carbi.
My choice is 220hp MPI V6 or 220hp Carbi V8, the prices are very similar.
The main use for the boat will be wakeboarding, cruising etc usually with about 6-8 people on board.
I realise everyone will have a different opinion on this issue but the main things i need to know is will the V6 MPI struggle with 6-8 people wakeboarding and will the fuel consumption be that noticeable between the two.

Any input would be appreciated

The V6i will definetly be more fuel efficient. It is also 50 kilos lighter, that's a small adult or a teenager.

There is an old saying - "there is no substitute for cubic inches". I used to believe that, but not anymore.

The V8 may come into it's powerband earlier (better for holeshot, not that important for wakeboarding). You need to test them both before handing over the green stuff.

Horses for horses, I'd pick the fuel injected V6 but I would suggest wet testing both, and then decide. Take along your family, load the boat up and try it out.

Aldo

For the torque I'd take the 220hp V-8! (just like you said, you're gonna get each opinion.) But I would not leave that 220hp v-8 alone, I'd put a 4bbl intake manifold & carb on it, as soon as possible!

Valid points... is an MPI V8 available? It won't be much worse on fuel and it'll run circles around the other two.
If not, I prefer EFI over a carb... the engine runs better. Period. However, the V6's don't sound anywhere near as good as a V8. Tough call... I'd go with the V8.

As posted above, there is no substitution for Cubic Inches as far as torque and boat performance is all about torque. If the difference in fuel consumption for the few hours of pleasure boating is the issue, don't buy a boat. The difference will be a couple of hundred per year tops. The V8 also leaves options for the future, carb as suggested is one, cam another. If you like to drag things, which obviously you do, stick with the cubes and get the V8.

If this is the way you will commonly load your boat, then I vote for V-8. Also, don't forget the SmartTabs. ;)

Thanks for all your replies, tough decisions. Magster there is an MPI in V8 although its just out of my budget and is 260hp which will suck fuel.

I will keep you all posted on my decision.

Thanks
