I bought a 22 ft searay seville that has a 3.0 engine took it out today and the speed o read 25 even when played with the trim. Is this about normal for a 3.0?
Wow, I didn't even know they ever made a 22' boat with a 3.0L ! That's a very small engine for that size boat, 25 MPH could very well be top speed. Biggest boat Sea Ray makes today that you can get with a 3.0L is only 18'.
those pitot tube speedometers are not accurate. borrow a GPS...
I had a 21.5 cuddy with a 3.0... it would go 34 mph with very light load.
About 29 with the family aboard..poor little motor
I don't think your tach is accurate, either
3.0 won't run 5500 very well... valves would be floating at that rpm
(do boat tachs even go much past 5500?)
4600 is redline for that motor
In a big boat, usually have to retard the timing on the 3.0 to manage knock and ping. Can use premium fuel and set the timing back to spec. for a tiny bit more power
took it back out today, it stayed around 4k rpm, the speed o read around 25. the boat did greatfor most the day and then started acting funny, kinda like bogging down a little when it got low on fuel. im gonna change plugs, plug wire, dist cap and rotor button and thn the fuel water filter. ill let u kow in a couple of weeks.
the boat is an 87, the tach was acting up, the boat was running at 4k, hit the trim to adjust it and it bogs the motors the runs fine after u let off. it needs the tune up anyway im sure of that.
