When running a 40 hp Yamaha 4-stroke down the Mississippi pushing a 1600 lb. pontoon boat at about 20 mph how much gas must I have on board (without refueling)to travel 100 miles?

Jackpine,

Too many variables to even venture a guess.

A 40 pushing a pontoon at 20 mph is going to be working very hard.

Re: MPG

I would guess between 8-10 mpg .Of course weight factor will vary mpg.I would bring at least 15 gal.& 20 to be on safe side.I know a commercial fisherman who says he runs 50 miles on 6 gallons with honda 40 hp 4 stroke pushing 1500 lb total weight

Re: MPG

You'll use approx. 4gph @ wfo so 20mph and 100 mi., it'll take about 20 gal. for the trip.
When you get back from the trip, drop a posting and lettus know how much fuel you REALLY used.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

Jackpine Savage,

If you get 100 miles on 20 Gal of gas in your toon, please post back so I can throw my Evinrude overboard!(Ha-Ha) That would be awesome mileage in a toon! Of course, you do have that super-efficient 4 stroke going for ya. Let me know how it goes! Good Luck on your trip!
