Last time I went to login to winmx... it was gone. Apparently they have suspended operations while they relocate out of the country. Anyone know what the best P2P site is at the moment?

The bit torrent network is now called Exeem. They deal alot in entire CD's vs. individual songs.

I've always used Bearshare which is just another Gnuatella network front end. The spyware it loads can be removed with Spybot and the program still runs fine.

Now of course you are talking about legal downloading right? :)

MIRC is the place. Learn it... Love it.

Get anything you want. Music, Video, programs (for educational purposes of course.. :D )...

But LEARN how to use it before you dive in too deep. It has its share of viruses. Not nearly as bad as WinMx and Napster though.

MIRC is a little overwhelming at first, but you'll get the hang of it. There are a few add-on programs that make it search and act a lot like Napster.

H.

I use Real Rhapsody. It has been pretty good. Of course that is a legit one and I pay for it . . .

Re: mp3 / mpeg downloads

Lately I've been getting my music from Apple itunes for $0.99/song. I think a buck is pretty reasonable, rather than paying $15 for a CD with only 1 or 2 songs I like. They've got pretty much every song you could ever want, all perfect quality, and downloaded in seconds. I just got tired of spending an hour looking for one song and having to download it 5 times before I get a good copy. You'll still have to find porn elsewhere. :p

As much as I dislike Apple, they've pretty much got the music thing covered. I got an ipod today...damn these things are cool! :D

I used winmx for 3 or 4 years and never got any viruses. I just installed Limewire and it looks good. I'll do the same for Morpheus.
Thanks :)

I've always been under the impression that I-tunes sells you an MP3 version of a song for $.99. MP3 quality normally is inferior quality to original CD, and certainly lower quality than LP vinyl platter. I hate to pay for inferior quality.

Limewire = prone to spyware/adware/virus downloads. Bad holes open up on your computer leaving you vulnerable. I'd stay away from that crap in general.

Sean

I use spybot, spydoctor and AVG. Luckily the only problems I've had were due to my AVG not being set for auto update and I got 2 trojan viruses. I set it to auto and haven't had anything else... knock on wood!
So Morpheus is better you think?

MP3s are just as good as the original CD if you use a high enough bitrate. I'm sure apple uses some pretty high end equipment to obtain their music...unlike most file sharing programs, where it's just a song some guy ripped from his CD on his computer.
