I just purchased a new Four winns and removed my minn kota 90lb. thrust from my older four winns. It was mounted to a volvo penta. The new boat has a i/o mercruiser 4.3 alpha. Can I mount this without adding a plate? It takes 6 half inch bolts to secure it.securedownload-1.jpgsecuredownload.jpg
That means drilling into a new motor. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thank you for your help. If you recommend a plate, what one and where can I get it?

Re: mounting trolling motor to mercruiser

If you are talking about a stabilization plate. I have a older Minn Kota mounted on my Alpha 1. I used a Cobra plate with mine. Two reasons: it was flat and it went under the cavitation plate. It really like the fact that the bolts for the motor mount are in contact with the aluminum plate rather than the cast aluminum cavitation plate. If you are talking about a plate for extra support, sure couldn't hurt.
