I am trying to determine where to place my transducer, I have a Lowrance X125 and per instructions I need to place it on the transom where the water is the slickest and not closer than 12? of the lower unit.

I just don?t know where the optimal location would be, I have included some pictures for reference.

The next picture shows where the 12? mark would be, there is only a couple of inches to the right of the speedo device and that would put it right next to the lifting strake.

This one shows the lifting strake.

These shots are from under the boat on port to show the bottom surface.

Re: Mounting transducer help.

I'd put the transducer where the speedo is currently and move speed thing in closer. You want at least twelve inches. More is better and less turbulent but the further out you move, the higher the transducer is and thats bad too. It's amazing what a half inch downward adjustment in height does for fishfinder performance. I wouldnt put it inbetween the strake and where it is now. That area looks curved to me.

cdnfthree2, thanks for you're reply. I thought about taking the speedo pitot off, as it realy dosn't work well it is about 12 MPH off, but do you think the transducer will be to close to the strake?

Here is another picture.

It's not an ideal situation, but mine works great. Mine also has the side hull extensions.
here it is before I lowered it.

Re: Mounting transducer help.

I used to but not since I lowered it. I can get readings at nearly 50mph.
Once I lowered it though it created a rooster tail upward spray. This is due to a poor design by the manufacturer of my unit (humminbird) . They sent me a part to fix the issue. I'm happy now. Youy should be fine. Make sure you wire it away from the Tachometer. My performance oimroved greatly after wiring it direct 2 battery- independent of everything else on the boat.
