I do not want to drill holes in my transome and am thinking of attaching a mounting plate with 5200. What is the best material to use and how thick should it be? Should it be mounted flush with the bottom or slightly above? Any advice and experiences appreciated!

Why not take that 5200 and cement itn in the bottom of the boat about 6" off the center keel about 6" before the transom. 8)

And yes it will also tell you water temp if you give the alum time to come up/down to the waters temp. But since the thermal conductivity of al is very high, this won't take very long, like a couple of minutes.

Last I heard transducers don't shoot thru metal too well ... :/

Mine goes thru aluminium hull? Works good! Although I have heard that it is not as sensitive?

You are transmitting sound, not electromagnetic waves. Anyone that has fished out of a 14' aluminum rent boat knows that alum can and does retransmit sound extremely well.

Agree that sensitivity may be reduced but I'd bet most folks fish in waters under 100 ft and I'd bet they have no problems. Now if they were out at 350 or so then it might get a bit weak.
